I used to go to theaters a lot more often before my son was born. Obviously, the first couple of years after he was born I never took him to the theaters. After he turned three I would take him to see the standard Pixar/Disney Dreamworks type of films. However, he would behave pretty bad most of the time. During that time I only saw a couple of films that were adult oriented, since it was very difficult to have one of his grandmas babysit for us weekend evenings. I personally would not consider leaving my son at some playground while I go see a movie. Under no circumstances, no way - no how. I will not place the responsibility of watching my son on total strangers. There're a lot of crazy things going on.

For full disclosure, I haven't been to a commercial theater in almost 10 years. |

Jeff,
Several weeks ago on the bits (maybe even more than month ago, I can't remember how long ago it was, but it's definitely been a while), Bill posted that it was likely that Fox would announce Moulin Rouge on blu soon. I obviously don't want you to go have to go into specifics, but my question is this: did those plans never materialize, or am I just being impatient? If the answer is the latter, I'll just keep it tuned to the bits and keep my eyes open. Thanks for the info! |

I've seen only 3 movies at the theater this year - "Up," "Star Trek," and "Harry Potter." In every case, there were people on cell phones or crying babies. For "Up," I didn't mind so much given the audience (the babies), but for the other two pictures it was unacceptable. My kids don't even want to go anymore because our experience at home is so much better.

I've never had much problems at my local theater with people texting or phones ringing. It's usually the baby crying or talking.
Though...one time when a friend of mine went to see The Prestige, someone brought a laptop...yes a laptop. They opened it towards the end of the movie and you know how bright a laptop screen is in a dark room. My friend proceeded to stand up and say "OH HELL NO!! SHUT THAT THING!!!" |

Release Lists has Forbidden Planet as tentative October 2010 so that probably means not much before that even if plans change.

I go to the theater frequently. We cant expect the management to be able to police many auditoriums at the same time. It's just not feasible. Therefore, I have learned to be very comfortable in the role of the azzhole vigilante patron. When I see the glow of a cell phone (which is distracting as hell) I have no problem BARKING a command to the offender. I had a twenty-something 4 or 5 chairs to my right that was ballsy enough to use his a second time...mistake....I walked over and stood directly in front of him and firmly demanded he put it away immediately. He did. The people behind him leaned forward and thanked me. When I returned to my seat, the lady next to me thanked me. I dont care how rude or obnoxious I appear, they are the offenders, not me. They are warned more than once before the show to be curteous. I'm not out of line to get in their face, and, I encourage others to do the same. If we tolerate it, it will just continue.
Sorry for the rant, but I LOVE going to the theater and it bugs the hell out of me how our adult society has become so poorly behaved. I have just reached a point where being Mr. polite and PC and accomodating didnt work for me anymore. Passive schmassive. Oh, and I no longer "ask" talkers to "please be quiet". I tell them to STOP TALKING NOW! ![]() ![]() |
