I have not seen this mini-series, just a couple of clips on Youtube. I am a Paul Giamatti fan. Did it have "repeat viewing appeal" to you ?

The standard def version is $22.50 and the Blu-ray is $45.50 at the moment. I'm tempted to buy the SD just because of the price and because it's a blind buy.

Its a well done series in all aspect but for me it doesn't have "repeat viewing appeal"..

It was fantastic. But as Mo said, it's a one time gig for me. Maybe twice...maybe.

Agree with Mo and Squid. I loved the series but I don't think its worth the buy for me. It may be a different story for you OP, since for each is their own.

Great mini series! It's more than one time viewing for me for sure. Ranks up there with BoB and Lonesome Dove as the best mini series (IMHO). The reason I don't own it yet as there are just too many films on my want list and waiting to pick this up in the 35 dollar range new or used.

I agree. It is a well made mini-series that I've seen twice (I watched each episode twice during it's original airing). I would love to see it again and my reason for not owning it currently is the same reason Elvis gave.

With that being said, I never recommend a blind buy unless you have a disposable income. In that case, I would highly recommend a blind-buy of John Adams.

It's great for history-buffs. I've seen it several times. I can see why it's only a 1-time view. However, if you're a fan of history then you're in for a treat.

I gave the series a 9/10.

BOB is a completely different series so you really can't compare them.

What I meant to say is that people sometimes say that if you like BOB, you'll like John Adams. This is not the case. It's clearly a historical biography of John Adams and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. BOB has a lot more character development and story line.

Ha..no I was not comparing them per say, I was saying that it ranks right up there with BoB and Lonesome Dove as my favorite Mini Series.

A 7-hour mini-series about the least popular of the Founding Fathers just isn't something most people are going to want to watch over and over again. Having said that, maybe there are some history buffs who will genuinely watching it many, many times.

Still, it might be worth renting (Netflix or anyplace that has it) or checking with your local library, which might have some copies.

I agree that he is not one of the most popular of the founding fathers, but I would consider him one of the most interesting and this mini-series captures that well. I don't think one has to be a history buff to enjoy this mini-series. I think its one of the best mini-series produced in the last couple years. Plus, it's a HBO mini-series so the quality is top notch. The worst of the HBO mini-series is still better than most things on TV.

The John Adams miniseries is outstanding and as with any great film work the repeated viewing appeal is high. I highly recommend you add this title to your Blu-ray library. It's great stuff.

This mini series is a perfect 10 to me, I loved every minute of it. But I love history so my view is little bit sided, but if you like history you're going to love this series and it's worth a blind buy.

If you can just buy the Blu Ray.

The detail and historical facts are great, plus superb performances by everyone makes this blu ray one the best purchases I've made.

Actually I'm re-watching it with the facts feature turned on, so it's even better

As long as you remember that the series is about the life of John Adams, and not the Revolutionary War, you'll find plenty to enjoy here. The war is wrapped up fairly quickly with only one action scene in the whole series.

It does drag a bit at times, but really gets interested when Adams travels to France. The movie just brings a period to life in a realistic fashion.

My biggest beef was the handheld shaky camera effect through out the series. It can be distracting at times.

I didn't either and i hate the shaky cam if it's overdone. The series seemed to be shot in a very "traditional" manner to me. Lots of good framing, especially exterior shots of buildings.
