Heh, if I was that big a fan of US TV and needed the Japanese subtitiles I probably would, I certainly spend about that much or more every month on anime Blu-rays.

I was tempted to get some of the Japanese versions of Star Trek Blu-rays, but decided to spend my money elsewhere. I did get all the Star Wars DVDs when they first came out in Japan, since I watch them so often I figured I may as well have the Japanese dubs for shits n giggles, or if I'm in the mood to watch the prequels but don't want to hear the wooden acting.

Hey Jeff,

I'm just wondering if you've heard any more rumblings recently about the Alien situation. The latest I've been hearing has the new prequel movie now showing up somewhere mid-2011 at the earliest. Do you think Fox is really mad enough to tack another year-plus onto the wait for this long-in-production series/set that's already been substantially pushed back? I hope they understand that co-marketing/tie-in scheduling must have its limits. Heck, if they'd released it on the original schedule, the timing of the new movie would probably have been just about perfect for a re-release of the "Quadrilogy"!

I don't think we can know the timeline for Alien 5 until after Ridley Scott finishes Nottingham. I'm still dissapointed this has seemingly backburnered The Forever War

So until we know when he's starting, it's impossible to predict how that might move Alien Quad around. I can say that the discs aren't done and sitting on a shelf however, and the extra time is being used productively

That's good. Hopefully, they won't want this project on their books for three years before any ROI.

Thanks for the update!

Bill said the same thing. I cant honestly think of too many things things they could add from the Quad set that would make the set that much better.

I would like to see:
Coccooned Burke scene
David Fincher participation for Alien 3
Uncut documentary for Alien 3, not the one made by "Frederick Garvin"
A version of the film approved by Fincher.

Jeff, I know you cant make much comments on it, but is there ANY chance that the above requests could show up on the Quad?

Any chance? Please tell!

Not only put Forever War out but has changed what sounded like a fresh look at Nottingham, making it a more "conventional" Robin Hood pic.

A Fincher approved Alien3 might actually be worth the wait. Hell even a Whedon approved Resurrection.

I can only hope we see this means a 4K mastering process like Warner did with Oz

Yes

That would be impossible without a total reshoot on 4, because much of the problem was in the pacing and delivery (the director spoke very basic English at the time, and therefore we ran into the same problem Buffy and X-Men had. Lines that could be hilarious when delivered properly turn into head scratchers (the "toad" line for instance)

Joss has said he's mellowed on it over the years, but still vows that he's the only person who's going to ruin his scripts from now on

Personally, I've grown to like ALIEN RESURRECTION over the years, especially since the "Quadrilogy" DVD set was released.

Several years back, a former co-worker recommended the "Alien" (well, the first two anyway) movies to me, so I purchased the "Quadriliogy" DVD set and watched them all for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed the first three (yes, even Alien 3), but "Resurrection" fell flat. I'll give it another try with the eventual Blu-ray release, but I don't see it growing on me. It would be cool if it did though...

One scene does stick out in my mind quite fondly though....

Hey Merrick, check Jeff's post out.
I had this wild discussion with another member about the Assembly Cut.
And Jeff cleared it all out, proving me wrong

Thanks for that. Very nice info. If Charles were able to release an Alien 3 documentary with Fincher participation that would be sweet

Exchanged my South Park BD for another copy, and took it to a friend's house just to rule out my equipment / setup - same audio sync issue was present.

Jeff,

Nobody is happier than me that Last Action Hero is getting released on bluray, but WHY are there no special features? Have they just not been announced yet?

Unless there is a physical defect on a disc (scratching, peeling) one copy will be identical to another. I've never heard of a BD not being data-indentical to another from the same SKU.

Believe me, I understand - I just did the exchange to rule out some 1 in a million fluke and to silence those who would invariably tell me I must "have a bad disc" since they don't notice the sync problem.

Doing the test on someone else's equipment was the much more telling aspect of my most recent post.

Because there's no special features on the DVD. There seems to be a small enthusiast audience core that really likes the movie, general public, not so much.

I submitted the south park sync issue thing, I'll let you know if anything comes back on it
