80% of my steels ordered from amazonEU came with dent, minor dent I can tolerate, but baddly damaged like Wanted (UK, hinge broken), Departed (Fr, henge broken), Hyper Tension (Fr, bended), I had claimed for full refund or replacement, and in most of the cases, amazon asked me to keep the damaged ones as their complements.

Just got a dented one (The Orphanage) from an ebay seller in Austria . It wouldn't bother me as much but for the fact that he advertised it as new and sealed, but it is clearly a rewrapping job; and a poor one at that. I had also emailed him before purchasing to ask him whether there were any dents and he said "the item is in perfect condition and will arrive in that same condition." Problem is that shipping back with tracking costs a fortune so I'm just hoping the guy works something out, but I'm not holding my breath...

Done, but I have the feeling I'm going to have to eat this one...

P/S - Here's what you do - you eat it b/c PayPal will only cover you if you ship back with tracking, which costs a fortune when you're shipping abroad...then take a big hit in the trading forum selling it...

Back from the dead.

I received a FS Disney SB yesterday in the mail. I was so happy that I finally received it, and when I opened it and took out that back slip-cover I found 2 dents and 1 ding on the back.

I know it's not the sellers fault because the SB had that stupid back slip cover and you can't see if there's damage on the back. There's nothing he could do so I just bought another one for cheap lastnight and I'm going to keep the new one sealed for display, and keep the damaged SB to look, open, and watch. Problem solved!

Im a new member to the forums but have been lurking around and reading all the posts about steelbooks and stuff as i am starting to become a collector myself and possibly looking to have some up for trade/sell in the future.

I am normally very careful with my own discs myself and especially with SB's, i try to buy ones that are not dented or visibly dented when i purchase. I was just wondering in general; how picky are people in terms of dents on SBs? I guess what im saying is, i inspect my SB's and as a new trader/seller here, i want to ensure that my QC so to speak is on par with hopefully everyone elses (ie for me as long as its not visible on the first glance, its ok in my books but i dont go through each and every corner with a fine toothcomb if you know what im saying). Any suggestions or comments appreciated. Thanks

I guess it depends on the person, but the appeal of getting something brand new is because it is untouched and unscathed....which is what most people expect to get when they buy sealed steels, or anything in general....

If you see my car. I have not dents or scratches. It's always CLEAN! Just like my SteelBooks! This goes for the rest of the things I own.

Since I was talking about cars... I was thinking that I can give my Disney FS SB to my local PDR guy and maybe he can fix it since he pulled a few dents off of my car, but I don't think the dents on a SB can be reparied like a cars dent.

I had the same thing happen to me on my Gran Torino from Amazon.de; two crescent shaped dents right on Clint's forehead, obviously made by the corner of another steel compressed on the back . Well, I put the steel on a hard flat surface, and from the inside, I used a smooth metal object to roll out the dents. It actually worked really well, and they are practically invisible (unless you look at a certain angle).

Nice! You should of done before and after pics.

I don't think I can do that since I think I'll make the appearance look worse.

I don't know where I read it (I am sure is was on blu-ray.com) but somebody wrote that car wax can polish out light surface scratches on a steelbook case. I haven't tried it yet, but if I ever do, I will use a Sham-Wow!

As for light dents, what about using the edge of a popsicle stick or the stick from a sucker or Q-TIP to try and gently press the dent out?

If all else fails, refer to my previous post here.

LOL I read your post earlier this morning!

Well I used a Quick Detailer (Car care product) yesterday on my T2 Mexican SteelBook because the back paper was GLUED on the back of the SB. That was a pain to remove. I made it easier using Goo Gone but I was a little hesitant at first since I might harm the paint. Goo Gone worked great and I removed the residue with my Zaino Z-6 Detailer to give it a nice shine.

As for using wax... some wax or even cleaner wax will contain abrasives and it will cause the paint on the SteelBook to scratch (swirl marks) more because I'm not sure if there's a clear coat protectant on the SB's paint finish?

What about that pen thing that Billy Mays used on cars to get rid of scratches on cars? Have you seen the TV commercial? I think the product is called "Scratch Be Gone." It.... might.... work!

I've seen that commercial, but I won't use it on my SB's or my car.

I think once the scratch is visible it's all the way down to the bare metal you'll make it worse by trying to rub a chemical on the finish. That's what I think. So maybe I answered my own question if there's a "clear coat" on the finish
