Even the most ardent HD-DVD lurker has to ask himself - "How many times are their 'leaders' going to be WRONG ?" - and finally start asking themselves simple questions..

Bottom line: Do I want to listen, trust and follow people who's information and predictions turn out to be wrong so often? If I'm basing my decisions and money on them where does that leave me?

Are they simply incompetent?

Are they only reading/providing partial information that leads to invalid conclusions?

Do they have an agenda/stake in play and aren't fully disclosing information and relationships that may be shaping the information they are telling me. Potentially good for them not so good for me.

Wow, never realised this was such an issue for HD-DVD'er's!

They're really in a spin over at AV$ and quite frankly have been humiliated!

This thread on AVS is AMAZING. Normally I think the term "FUD" gets branded about too easily in this format war but if some of the posts on that thread isn't the very DEFINITION OF FUD then I don't know what FUD is. Holy crap it's embarrasing.

"bu-bu-bu... what about cycle time!"

"bu-bu-bu... they can't use the full 50Gb!"

"bu-bu-bu..." *bitter tears*

Exactly, combat FUD with facts and they'll kill HD-DVD themselves through a loss of credibilty.

Sony DADC has produced
more than 50 million Blu-ray Discs in its three plants
Just one problem.. this summer the sales figures mentioned less than 2 million BDs sold total. That means there's a lot of unsold product out there on the shelves.

I'm sure there is alot more unsold DVD products on shelves than there is either BD or HD-DVD.

Every PS3 game is a Blu-ray disc.

you still haven't count ps3 games and free discs promo and they have to produce enough stock to last a few years and not keep starting up the line just to print 2nd/3rd/... rounds which will cost them more.

...and with BD-25's and BD-50's really getting there, how soon will it be before BD-100's start coming out, and will they be readable with current player's? Perhaps with a firmware update?
You're not going to see BD-100 on a commercial product, and frankly I have my doubts about ever seeing them in any quantity at retail in writeable form either

Well, they gave away over a million Casino Royales with Playstations. Plus there's a hell of a lot of product in the Christmas lineup, and that 2 million number is just the US as well.

I too am interested exactly where the number is sourced from. It's undoubtedly including every freebie, demo, and game disc they can come up with

maybe we use universal attach rate for counting
"people buy ps3 only for games and 1/2 bd movie".
so there are 4+ million ps3 out there, so we count at least each ps3 have 1 game = at least 4 millions.
and another 2 million bd movie.

So where is David Vaughn?
What was it, 60-70% for BD25 and 50% for BD50?

Actually, I simply expect Toshiba to refute this statement as well...just as they did the latest standalone data.

I would wager they've probably sold well over 10 million units of software for the PS3. That's probably conservative. Motorstorm and Resistance together account for 3-4 million units alone.
