What if the region coding had a time limit? That is, suppose both the region and an expiration date was encoded in the disk. Then suppose that a BD player, that was connected to the internet so it could reach a trusted time/date source, would then disregard the region coding if it had expired. Any takers? |

I'm actually curious about what people's experience with movies like Alexander is. I keep looking at Alexander and wonder why it looks to be so clean without film grain. This movie was shot on film, yet where is the grain? |

I haven’t seen this feature either in the theatre or on Hi-Def optical disc, also I have no knowledge of its history. |

imdb has Alexander on DI. That would indicate a cleaner master, but it's hard to believe that film grain is virtually gone even with a clean DI master.

![]() I got it and tried to post a pic but it seems like the file is too big or what not…..I’m pretty much computer illiterate and always need Deci to post pics for me. Anyway, you may see me on one of dem shows like EXTRA or Entertainment Tonight if they cover it. Watch for the guy with the limp (third leg). ![]() |

If you search into the archives on AVM$ under my name and The Fifth Element (or TFE or some shortened variant of that) you should find a post where I mentioned that I was or had already ? approached the *powers that be* at SPE to encourage them to redo that particular title and issue a remastered edition. The hell if I would say that if I thought the first release was acceptable to savvy home theater enthusiasts. You’ll find the same sort of thing somewhere in the archives on AVM$ with paidgeek (before any announcement of a remastered version) where he says something to the effect that the work could have been better and that there was a flaw in the production process of that particular title. He didn’t try to hide any misstep at all. The work done on this project was as good as could have been by anyone…..anytime. Nobody dropped the ball here. I see even Robert Harris has chimed in. Long-term internet junkies know for a fact that in the past on balance he has been far more negative toward Sony Pictures rather than positive (so there’s no inherent pro-Sony bias there) which I believe has been due to the Sony bureaucracy and budgetary constraints rather than any differences in philosophical viewpoints. But I guess if some people care to question even his judgment regarding transfers, then they’re all entitled to their own opinion……….which is why he does what he does for a living, and they do what they do to bring home the bacon. |

![]() It's an artform. And sometimes artists aren't appreciated in their time. This release will grow in stature with time, and become a reference against which other restorations are measured. It's a shame when pop sensibilities overshadow the art. Gary |

I watched parts of Dracula and Halloween tonight. I had close to the same reaction as Robert Harris did, although I am not equating myself with him. The film looks the way I remember seeing it projected. If you look at most of the outdoor daylight scenes, colors are rendered very well. I was actually more thrown with Halloween. It almost looked to sharp. Maybe that is the color timing issue, maybe it isn't. Either way, I came away thinking Dracula preserved the look of the film better.
