But if I recall I think read somewhere that the particular chip they went with doesn't support DSD? We'll see I guess. As of right now my money is still on the UMC.
I was told that they didn't support DSD with the UMC-1 because of the cost of licensing and chipset issues, how much could it have cost? almost every Onkyo receiver model that they make has it? yes, you can still get your DSD via analog if your player supports DSD out for SACD (my Oppo does) but, i was trying to avoid having to run either 6 or 8 cables where 1 could get the job done. I have DSD currently on both the player and my receiver and it sounds incredible. not sure why they didn't want to support it. also, i expected to see more feature sets, like support for an ipod, 9.2 in and out, HD radio, more HDMI's than they are offering. stuff like that and more. I may just be waiting for the Onkyo PR-SC5507. i'm sure it's gonna cost more but, i'll get the features i want and despite what some say, I'm very happy with my Onkyo 805 as far as an Onkyo product goes.

I should have clarified I meant DSD over HDMI, and the processor doing the decoding. At the same time, I'm also very happy with the Onkyo feature set and have been very surprised with what the 886 has been able to deliver, especially considering the price I paid. Still, I want to see how the UMC will compare. I'm also waiting to order a BDP-83 for when my UMC arrives. I'd hate to jump the gun now and have some unforseen circumstance and not have the cash for the UMC.

Oh, I meant DSD over HDMI, just like i have it now with my current setup, that's why I mentioned that it could also be done over analog.

its a different story for a smaller company who can't make up the cost through volume like onkyo does. To them the cost is nothing, to a company like emotiva it can mean big differences in their overall profit.

I am also disappointed with these XMC-1 specs. The thing is though, they are just basic specs....nothing is there that answers any questions. So i think we should just wait and see what Lonnie will say about it.

I'm so glad I'm done with amps for now (I actually still have one remaining LPA-1 from a prior setup that I haven't sold yet). Otherwise I may lose my UMC money!

But hmmmm... I did just pick up a Denon 1610 tonight for my office. I just hooked it up and noticed it has 2-channel preouts... hmmm... UPA-2? *sigh*

That is a sweet sale! I wonder if my wife will feel sorry for me, and let me get an XPA-3. Probably not, but the first of the year for sure. Thanks for the info.

i do want to pick up that UPA-2, but i'm gonna hold off until black friday and see if they drop anything just for that one day as many online places will some even do it for that entire weekend fri-sun. if so, i'll buy it then, if not, i'll still buy it but maybe wait for a bit closer to christmas. i'll have to see, i really do want that UPA-2, and if 50 is all i can get, then 50 off it is! i already have one of their x-series power cords waiting for it.

Sorry I don't know much about using an external amp, but can I connect another amp to the receiver I have (Pioneer VSX-1018AH)? I read that it does not have 12V triggers but I am not really sure what those triggers are for.

The 1018 has pre-outs, so yes, you can connect an external amp to the receiver. The triggers are only used to turn on the amp at the same time that you turn on the receiver.

Excellent, thanks for that. My Harmony should do the trick then.

wow Emotiva is f-ing awesome. New specs listed on XMC-1 because of popular demand!

still no dual independent video zones, but that is being saved for the future top of the line model...think DMC-1 replacement...
