HD DVD to Include Online Shopping
Evan Almighty disc will include link to Universal's online store.
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (October 3, 2007) -- Universal Studios will announce today that next week's HD DVD release of Evan Almighty will include an online shopping feature.
That's according to an article by the Associated Press.

Evan Almighty, a comedy which stars Steve Carell as a modern day Noah, will be the first HD DVD to include an online shopping component.

The disc will include a Web browser that can connect to Universal's online store where viewers can buy products related to the movie such as a rain barrel for $135 and recyclable toilet paper.

HD DVD supporters, led by Microsoft, have said the format's interactive features will distinguish it from rival Blu-ray in the high-def disc war.

Who in gods name would actually use that feature? If you really wanted to buy something online, why not just get on your computer and do it? Seriously, wtf?

Recyclable toilet paper? If they're saying what I think they're saying then that's disgusting. I'd never buy a product that supports recyclable toilet paper...just wrong.

This has to be a joke. What good is using HD-DVD to buy stuff online when they will have the blu-ray content blocked?

I think the world can do without another webTV. No wait, this would be webHDTV.

I'm sure it will be amazingly simple to browse to the website, order the products, enter your name and credit card number, all using the remote.

What a colossally stupid idea.

What in the world are they thinking???

A popup will give you the option to purchase merchandise featured in the film?? WTF?? Who in their right mind - in this world (or any other, for that matter) wants to have their move-watching experience interrupted with a commercial?? (Unless, of course, it is Evan Almighty that is being interrupted!)
LOL

It is a decision like this that will truly cause the HD-DVD format to fail - what a HORRIBLE idea (for THEM - for us - it's quite a attractive as it will lead to their earlier demise).

this is really, really stupid.

on the other hand a polyphony digital spokesman said that in GT5 they hope to have online dealerships where you can go and litterly test drive production cars. A company salesperson will sit with you in the car and tell you about all the features, then if you want you can actually buy the car. For a 19 year old, being able to go and take a jaguar or a porshce and do a little test drive would be pretty sweet. and it doesn't interupt your game.

okay, buying a $100,000 car online is a little far fetched... now if it's a digital version you can get for a buck, sure...

but again, big difference btwn add-on for a game and buying the box of tampons you can see in a bathroom scene in a movie... i mean, that's rediculous i can't believe it... i thought it was about movies... not shopping!! i mean who watches a movie and says... oh damn, i just need to have the same paper he's using... must feel nice on my ass... must buy... must buy now!!! PAUSE... CLICK... CLICK... error... error... blue screen of death... restarting in 30 seconds...

I'll tell you flat out this is what the companies all want. For you to buy crap through them through the movies. You like the shirt Brad Pitt is wearing? Click on it and buy.

this is a strange concept. I've seen a similar thing done on dishnetwork. Some commercials have a button show up on the screen that you can select with the remote control to order the product from your dishnetwork account. I would never in a million years trust that method of online purchase. Thanks, but if I want to buy something I'll do it on my computer that I set up myself and that I trust (because I choose what AV and antispyware I want to run). How secure is a cable/sat box? How secure is a HD-DVD player? I don't know. Actually, how secure is my PS3? Yeah, I'll stick to my laptop when it comes to my money.

its not just the really nice cars. you hopefully will be able to buy 10-20k cars. however, since im not looking for a car to buy id just take the nice ones out for a spin. imagine being able to drive a fusion see how it feels, then 10 sec. later seeing how a camry feels, then right after that testing out an accord. you wouldn't have to run all over the place to test drive cars. however, id never buy a car online.
