Default Where would you buy a PS3 right now?

I have a friend who is a real ass-dragger. I've been trying to get him to buy a PS3 for a couple of years now. With the release of COD4 MW2 I have about as much leverage as I can get on him. (He played COD4 on his PC and liked it.) So last night over cocktails I offer to sell him my 40GB PS3 for a discount (since I kinda want a Slim). He agreed, so now I need to find a PS3. Here is what I've found so far:

I know Black Friday is around the corner. All I've seen in the way of deals on the PS3 is the Best Buy LBP/Ratchet & Clank bundle for $299.99. I already have LBP and don't really care about R&C. I could sell them on eBay I suppose. Right now if you pay with PayPal at Best Buy you get a $20 credit, but that offer expires Monday.

Sony Style has a $50 discount if you buy a PS3, an accessory and an extended service plan. I need to buy the stand anyway and, although I normally don't buy extended warranties, after my current PS3 crapped out at 14 months I am definitely going to buy a service plan anyway. Sony has a 3 year plan for $70 whereas Best Buy has a $60 two-year plan.

1.) Are there any deals out there I am not aware of, including impending Black Friday offers?
2.) Would you buy a protection program? If so, which one is worth it?

I don't mind waiting until Black Friday, but this guy may get cold feet and change his mind. That wouldn't be a big deal, but I'd like to have at least one friend to play games with online from time to time and he's the only friend who's a gamer.

If you got a CostCo membership, for the price of the Slim and the remote (total $329.99) they toss in the first Unchartered into the bundle.

Check BFads.net for updates as we get closer to Black Friday.

Now if your buddy is buying your old unit, why not do the bundle from Best Buy and give him LBP and R&C to start out with. Especially since its pretty close to the holidays anyway.

I would buy from Newegg or Amazon. Remember that depending on where you live the the sales tax can add as much as $25 to your PS3 purchase, $25.53 in New York. Not that we can avoid that here in New York, but if I lived somewhere else, I would consider that. $25 is almost enough to buy a platinum game.

If I had to buy a warranty, I would get it online too at www.squaretrade.com They seem pretty good. But to be honest I never really buy extended warranties. I take my chances, which with the PS3 are pretty good.

Think that Best Buy has a Black Friday deal where you get two free games with the purchase of a Ps3.

If I were going to get another PS3 or any other Blu-ray player I would get it at Best Buy just for the RZ points. That would be 300 points which means a $5.00 certificate.

I know what you mean, but I've fully disclosed the history of my PS3 and made him aware of what could happen. I'm not selling it to him anyway. I'm trading it for his used Ruger .357, which he's been trying to get rid of anyway. So we're doing each other a favor here.

Technically speaking any voluntary trade between any two parties benefits both. It doesn't matter if it is cash for goods or goods for goods, as long as all pertinent information is disclosed.

Newegg charges $13+ delivery, which is strange since everything I've bought from them in the past shipped free. It is tax-free, but the sales tax is about wiped out with the $20 credit PayPal is offering for $100+ Best Buy purchases. I live in one of the four states where Amazon charges taxes, so that route is a no-go.

Square Trade seems like a good deal. Anyone vouch for them? I too normally don't buy the extended warranty, but I had bad luck with the PS3 I own so I'd rather not take any chances.

I checked out Costco today. It's just like you said. With my Harmony I have no need for a PS3 remote and I was planning on giving the one I already have to my buddy as part of the deal, along with an HDMI cable.

I just picked one up (along with COD MW2 of course) at Amazon yesterday after my other 6-month old game console crapped out. I'll never buy Microsoft garbage again. Still don't know why I did, think they were out of PS3s at the time who knows...VERY happy now though...even have 2 Blu players now

Hmm it is strange that the newegg is charging for shipping the PS3 right now.

Looking at the bestbuy black friday deal, I might just go with bestbuy, too bad I have to work that day. I hate working holidays, if only because all my emails go unanswered.

So are the Best Buy/Walmart PS3 deals valid only on BF or do they extend into the shopping season?

I went there earlier today. They are bundling the PS3 with an extra Dualshock ($54.99) and an 8' Rocketfish HDMI cable ($69.99) for $395.

Nice try Best Buy. Nice try.
