I had thought it was pretty common knowledge here that the 20GB and 60GB PS3's will only be able ever to ouput TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio as PCM as the HDMI chipset does not support bitstream output of the lossless codecs.

So long as they can at least do the decoding I am a happy man. When I get FF: ROTSS this weekend, it's gonna be a bitter pill being stuck with the core track after hearing all the glowing reviews from those with bitstream out a receiver that can decode the lossless track.

oh ok. i thought you meant that the ps3 60gig would never support HDMA.

Matt, did you watch the docs? The scenes from the film in the docs are from the earlier HD transfer (as confirmed to me tonite from Kim Aubry of Zoetrope. I actually got a PM from her at HTF because I had brought these issues up there! I totally smell damage control going on from paidgeek, her, even Mr. Harris.)

Boy, have I been out of the loop on the magnitude of the discussion of this thing !
Exactly how many forums is Dave posting on concerning this title ?
Any how many actual posts has he made concerning this issue ?

Forget it, I don’t want to know. It reminds me of an old thread on AVM$ where some other hobbyists were arguing with a professional concerning how utterly magnificent the benefits of 4K scanning would be to 1080p masters and the resultant High-Def optical discs --even on screen sizes less than 100 inches or so. I mean they argued and argued with this guy until they found out that his everyday job was doing 2K and 4K scanning at Cinesite London at a helluva alot higher level than an intern.

To this day, I still don't think they believe him and probably think he was biased because he hated dealing with the FX work and the 4K pipeline.

Oh well, back to the salt mines.

Is there a definitive answer to this issue of ps3 passing bitstream for output of DTS HD MA?

2001: A Space Odyssey is 149 min. on blu-ray. Original version was 160 min.; later versions cut down to 141 min. anybody know anything about extra footage and why the full 160 min. wasn't just used.

For anyone interested I've posted my thoughts on Dracula in #145 here:

I give it two fangs up.

I was looking at the AVS thread, and it's pretty darn cool someone from Zoetrope personally contacted Dave on the matter (regardless of how he took what they told him). Paid and crew have really gone above and beyond trying to diffuse this situation, and if it really was an incorrectly done transfer, I would think they wouldn't be so forthcoming. It's truly a cool thing to see, and I wish other content providers who didn't correct a mistake they acknowledged they made many years ago would take the same stand up approach, as opposed to run and hide *cough*AnchorBay*cough*.

Didn't they re-issue Fifth Element? And he's accusing them of a cover-up..because that's the behaviour they demonstrated in the past.

Hi Penton-Man,

Now that Dracula is put to rest and in his coffin, can you find out anything about Halloween? As you probably know, there have been questions raised about whether or not the color timing is correct.

Thanks.

Dave's assumption of Kim's gender (Kim is a he, no question about that) is just as incorrect as his assumptions on the quality of the Blu-ray transfer.

At least he appears to have edited his comments on AVM$ (concerning Kim, paidgeek and Bob) since his original posting that I copied and linked above.

Wicky, if you or any of the other mods are reading this, please tell Deci I sent him a PM will all the information.

There's more chance than the PS3 decode it itself .... the PS3 have a HDMI 1.3LITE transmitter, witch include all video portion of HDMI 1.3 but not the Audio Bitstream portion..

So what you are saying is it can't pass it via Bitstream at all? From what I take going through PCM alone will not work, the receiver will not decode anything but the core audio?
