After the results of the subtitle position poll, I expected to see Sony put subtitles into the image and not in the frame. I watched Angels & Demons over the weekend and was surprised to see that the subtitles were predominantly in the black bar below the image, with a second line of text appear in the image if necessary.

Has Sony changed their policy in regards to subtitles because of the poll or has no action been taken?

Not that it is relevant, but Fight Club had 28 subtitle tracks and their subtitles appeared entirely within the image.

As I said in that thread, this is about the grid being severely strained. The infrastructure can't take much more, so yes, the proper agencies of the California government are concerned with another summer of rolling blackouts. The state would then have to spend millions of dollars in emergency responses to the power outages, as well as huge increases in spending before they're financially ready for it to improve infrastructure fast (you can have it good, fast, or cheap, pick two)

The guys from the CEA are lobbyists, they're the same kind of people who are paid to champion all sorts of detestable causes about the wonders of cigarettes and how sorry they are that your kid is going to have to just make do without an arm because human growth is a pre-existing condition, and making him new prosthetics is just too darn expensive. The same "stifle innovation blah blah blah blah blah". Every time there's the same song and dance, and somehow they get through it and still make plenty of money.

Keep in mind that 25% of what the guy has in stock TODAY doesn't meet the guidelines, not what he'll have in stock when it actually goes into effect. And also don't forget that this translates into YOU saving money, less power useage= smaller electrical bill, and less heat to air condition away in the summer. I know that I'm doing an extra 3-5 degrees of cooling to keep my office cool in summmer simply because of all the gear I'm running, and it probably costs $2-300 a year. The HTPC I'm building right now I'm dropping an extra $200 on now, and I'm expecting it'll pay back within 2 years on power alone being on 24/7 for DVR and file serving purposes, and as a bonus, replace 2 PCs that pump out heat like crazy.

I'm all for saving power...I've started installing LED lightbulbs in the most used rooms in my house because they save so much on power (more upront cost though).

Here's a solution to the problem...how about allow a new power plant to be built in California! The environmentalists won't allow it. What about nuclear power? It seems to work well in Europe. I just think their priorities are messed up.

It would take a decade to build. The problems are here now. And then there is the problem of there not being the infrastructure to deliver it.

Smaller, lower power electronics are where it's at for saving the manufacturer money as well. Smaller power footprint=smaller die size=more chips can be made in a go=more units per wafer. Smaller power footprint=smaller power supply=less cooling (smaller fans and heatsinks) =money saved. Smaller cooling requirements and parts=smaller case size=money saved. Smaller parts=lighter weight=less shipping

Look at the PS3 Slim, that thing is saving a huge chunk of change for Sony.

So you can see where this benefits all parties involved

If it wasn't for lobbyists and government subsidiaries, nuclear power wouldn't draw nearly as much interest in comparison to other alternatives (and doesn't from the private sector).

It's not waiting, it's the fact that the problem peaks well before that solution would be functional, and in the end is not the long term answer to the problem.

In the end, this won't affect anyone here in the slightest, it's transparent and no one would have noticed had a few reporters in need of some buzz not gone around blowing this up. TV prices won't go up becuase of this, screen sizes won't go down, and no one is losing their job because of efficiency standards, so just stop worrying about it, and be glad that someone is doing something BEFORE the power grid comes crashing down around your ears

every site will have some noise, that is a given and hopefully some signal as well. And this site is no exception to that. In the end I gave up on AVS because the noise level reached a point where I considered it intolerable and the mods, possibly inadvertently, where helping push the noise level up. My comment was not meant as an attack of AVS or praise of this site. Just that when I decided to leave AVS and I said good bye, I got many PMs many some saying I should stick around because HDM was bad but there where others that where good, or juust don't bother with what is noise. I found it ofdd then and yesterday when I read the comment. To me the noise was growing everywhere, like I said I agree the HDM forums where way way way beyond salvageable but the people posting noise in the HDM forums where not only sticking to those forums but spreading, like spoiled food, maybe it is very little and localized so you can cut it off and save the rest but it just spreads with time and eventually even what still looks good is no more.

Jeff, like I said...I'm all for saving power and do my part. In fact, in comparisons to other friends who have the same floor plan, our bill is at least 30% lower because we use a programmable thermostat and energy efficient lighting. Then again, when the projector fires us with its 300 watt bulb and my 7-channel amp starts drawing power, my carbon footprint goes through the roof

But, you also have those same type of lobbyists (or environmental extremists) on the other side who haven't let California build more power plants to support the growing population and energy needs. These people seemingly want to control our lives. Conservation and being more efficient makes sense, of course, however it will only go so far.

I don't think Californians should be able to buy TV's over 24", or computer monitors over 15". In fact, maybe they should just go back to radios for entertainment, and paper/pencils/solar calculators for business. I hear they're much more energy efficient and environmentally friendly than energy hogging displays.
