The Blu-ray is OK. You have to remember that most of this film (much like Borat) was shot on low budget cameras so it wont look as good as recent releases like GI Joe or Transformers 2. Personally, I would go with the Blu-ray as it does look better than the DVD.

No the UK version only has English and Russian audio options and English for the Hearing Impaired subs. No French. Check the German specs out I believe I saw where that one would have French on it.

Strange the movie has yet to show up in America, as Fox distributes it here.

Is it the theatrical uncut version?

I know sometimes in the UK movies are censored. I'm getting ready to order it but wanted to confirm the UK Blu-ray was not censored

You can use this site to check for any cuts made to UK releases: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/BFF227353 (that's the direct link to Borat).

The film and all the extras were passed at 15, so not sure why the boxart above shows an 18 certificate... Amazon confirms this despite showing the 2007 DVD release as 15. Unsure what they've added that wasn't run past the BBFC that has upped it's rating. Bizarre.

With regards to cuts, usually if cuts are made these days (with mainstream films at least), it'll be because the studios want an 'R' rated movie to pass at '15' over here. 'R' allows them to get away with more than a '15', but I can't think of anything that would be 'R' rated now that would get cut if certed at '18'. However, '15' rated films are pretty much the norm here now and sometimes they'll slice a second or two to make this grade instead. It's a bit daft we don't have compatible ratings systems these days, as it makes the board look worse than it is. Most recent example is 'The Expendables', which received a small cut to a knife twist to secure the '15'. Back in the day it would've been an '18' without a doubt. Maybe they'll recert uncut to '18' for the Blu-Ray/DVD, not sure.

'18' isn't the equivalent to 'NC-17' though, the stigma attached to that rating is insane. We wouldn't have chains over here refuse to carry '18' films, but we don't have 'Unrated' either (except music titles and similar are Exempt from Certification, which is daft given some of their content!) so anything that gets classed as 'Unrated' in the states usually hits the DVD shelf as '18' here, as the cert doesn't matter as much then. The studios know it's easier for people to get their hands on higher rated films from the store, and the new rating is used to their advantage to promise more extremism.

Borat's a 15. That's either the work of Photoshop or some early Cover Art.

How weird, I went to Amazon to check the rating there as I wondered if it was early copy, and the DVD picture is 15 while the Blu-Ray is 18. Must both be sourced from the same place I guess.

edit: D'oh, just realised I'd already mentioned this in my first post!

Just checked my copy and the Blu-ray is definitely '15.'

My guess is that the cover art used by Amazon is just a pre-release mock-up of what the final art would be which is why the ratings are wrong.
