I know that it was mentioned earlier that the recent RATATOUILLE SteelBook is the same SteelBook and disc in both the English and bilingual (Quebec) versions.
I just noticed last night in opening my (English) copy that the movie was different from the DVD version I had before. In a brief scene in the last or second last chapter of the movie, the scene cuts from the main character (Linguini) reading a newspaper with all of the rats in the kitchen, to another scene where a man is plastering a "Closed" sign on the restaurant door due to the health inspector. I recalled that my DVD version, which was purchased from a Future Shop in Montreal, was different and when I went to confirm, sure enough. The sign which the man plasters on the restaurant door says, "Ferme". In fact, all of the signs in the movie, including scenes of newspaper headlines, etc. are all in French. Now because RATATOUILLE takes place in Paris, I actually didn't mind and thought it was more 'authentic' to the story. I thought I had noticed this when I first saw the DVD after going to the theatre because I didn't recall the French signs. However, I wasn't sure because I am able to read French and consequently it did not affect my enjoyment of the movie. So my question is, particularly to those in Quebec who own the bilingual version of the RATATOUILLE SteelBook, are the signs in the movie in French or English? If they are in French, I might actually consider owning a bilingual version because I like to see French signs in Paris, as opposed to English signs. Is anyone who owns the film, able to check and see if their bilingual version has French signs or not? Thanks. |

When I was watching the special features of Monsters Inc, they talked about how they animate all the signs and stuff like that in a bunch of different languages for release around the world. Your DVD probably had the french animation since it was intended for the Quebec market. The Steelbook Blu-rays were all the same discs, the english ones.

Thanks for confirming this! It would have been cool to have the French animation on BD, but I guess I will have to be satisfied with the DVD version!

Actually in reading the book that came with SNOW WHITE, they mention that Walt had key scenes with English writing in them (e.g. names on the Dwarfs's beds) re-animated in different languages because he did not want to detract from the viewer's enjoyment. It looks like they are still carrying this tradition with RATATOUILLE. In Paris, it kind of makes sense to have all the signage in French! |

Steelbook Scalpers should know by now that they won't be making much $ on release time. It takes at least a year for it to be worth it to make a good profit.

It always depends on the offer/demand. If you check on eBay they're a few left but when it'll be HTF (on eBay) they will soar and due to the small run it won't take a year! ![]() I'm helping 6 peoples with the Disney but want to have at least 2 of each SB for future consideration. ![]() Cheers, Gui.
