Not only that, there is a new video out of a later software build, it runs faster and smoother. My mate says it will eventually be updated to Android 2.0 and multi-touch (at the same time I suppose), and SE confirmed that the device is already MT capable, just locked out in software.
He says the latest build is stable enough that he is going to replace his N97 with this as his main phone from now on, also the camera is full of win. |

It has the hardware for 720p video recording, I expect it has something to do with software optimisation than with the hardware if it is unavailable at launch. The reason I was told is that SE have been optimising their UX platform for Android 1.6 and single touch and to launch with 2.0/MT would mean delaying until around April/June which was seen as an unacceptable compromise given the state of things at SE. Finally they have learned to get the hardware out as quick as possible rather than sit on it and wait like they did for Satio (which has been damn near usable for 3-4 months). I have been enquiring about the future of this phone (i.e. what the update model will be) and it looks like they will have a refresh every 6-12 months adding hardware features and updating the software as well, so this initial product may not be the one to get for patient people. If in November SE come out with X10.1 with 16m screen (if they can work these wonders with 65k I can't imagine what 16m will look like!), 720p video recording, LTE etc... then I will probably wait for that. Then again I get a phone once every 3-4 years and I buy the best available so I'm still using my venerable N95 (not the 8GB or anything new, the old silver N95!). |

I would also love quick refreshes, i.e. the opposite of current SE ( |

Wish they put a xenon flash and a lens cover on the X10. Without a QWERTY, I could never replace my N97 with it, though. Hopefully another SKU is imminent. Always loved my SE phones... Android 2.0 should be a good fit.
I'd put just N97 or N900 screen against the X10's any day of the week, though, and twice on Sunday. Really shines when you put a movie on it, especially with the stereo speakers right underneath. Multimedia is where Nseries have always shined. |

Just make sure they're not doing a direct money conversion. N97, for example was released at 599 Euros: converted that's almost $900 USD (895.924 USD) but it was released here at $699 unlocked. Now it's about $450 if you shop and get your coupons in order, etc but MSRP is still 599 Euros for the european version. Even the week of the launch, Amazon US had it for something like $620. I was able to get mine for $450 on the preorder "glitch" (Nokia USA's system accepted coupons for pre-orders when it wasn't supposed to, but they honored it), but that's neither here nor there. All the prices I mentioned were unsubsidized, unlocked. iPhone 3GS go for 500-699 unsubsidized IIRC.
N97's in the UK were usually available free with the contract, but that's also a slightly apples/oranges deal (Euro prices tend to be much higher than conversion but the things like contracts and even monthly rates tend to be lower IIRC). That's from the big carriers, though... there are shops out here in LA that subsidize individually so you can get your import/unlocked phone on a contract with that individual shop in exchange for their 2 or 3-year deal. I got my P900 way back in the day on such a deal (Paid a couple hundred down and then did 2-year agreement). I'd be real surprised if a US carrier makes a deal with the X10, though, so outside of an individual shop or special deal like that, I think you're going to be in the $400-600 USD range. SE phones tend to be pretty pricey, though. Xperia X1 stayed expensive for a long time after it lost it's halo. Last edited by Uxi; 11-18-2009 at 09:44 PM. |
