Not sure how to answer this one I've watched the single disc release, haven't got to the second disc yet (maybe the two are just sold as a set these days). Looked fine to me, sounded fine to me. It makes for an interesting viewing experience. (As do most Criterions.)

Maybe explore the net for some reviews, e.g., actually maybe go to amazon's page for it, there's often all kinds of reviews by people who bought it.

I suppose I'd recommend it, but don't hold it against me if it's not your cup of tea.

I just received it...always wanted it. Read an article from Gotham Magazine and definitely wanted to pick it up. Especially with this 50% off sale.

None of the B&N stores have the 2 disc Grey Gardens box set in stock. Plus they don't seem to be getting any new stock(Criterion blu's or DVD's) during the sale!

Finally picked up the blu-ray of Monsoon Wedding. And I also grabbed a few DVDs - Hobson's Choice, Sansho the Bailiff, Smiles of a Summer Night, The Spirit of the Beehive, Wild Strawberries and Z.

You should ask them to order it for you, when I had them order Wings of Desire they said it would take 5 days and I think I got it in 3.

Last time I went into my B&N store they only had 4 blu-rays left and they were all in the old packaging, I'm trying to wait for them to be released in the new packaging before I buy them.

Pretty interesting interview with Wes Anderson posted on Criterion's Website about "The Fantastic Mr. Fox". It's right on the homepage today, but it's part of the current.

Been restraining myself pretty well with the sale, only picked up Olivier's Shakespear, Vampyr, and Beauty and the Beast (All in store under $65 total after tax!!)

Probably going to order, The Human Condition, and maybe Casavattes Five films, more for the reason that it's a great deal.

Oddly, even though I have all of the Kurosawa Films that Criterion's released thus far, I'm still thinking of ordering the AK 100 25 Film Box-set. I just looks so amazing, plus I'm thinking they won't make very many unless demand is higher than the buzz around the net has been...

I'm hoping there's another BN sale like this in the Spring so I can get the Kurosawa box for a reasonable price

amazingly, B&N has the lowest price on it that I've found right now. For members, it's around $286. Which, if you break it down, is $11.44 per film.

Listen to me, I'm talking myself into it...

I've had it since the last sale, but haven't watched it yet, maybe soon.
I'd like to get the new version with Drew Barrymore and do a comparison...

Though I'm pretty sure the original is more documentary style, and the new one is more like a film or play.

I was going to pick up Seven Samurai since I have the original first press but if it's going to come out on Blu-ray, I rather wait. Was also going to pick up Tokyo Story but read on a forum that one maybe coming out on Blu-ray.

So, I'm deciding on:
Antonio Gaudi or My Dinner with Andre
Mishima Files and/or Patriotism
Ran

Would like to get Tati's "Trafic", other Godard, Fellini, Ozu and Melville films but I spent way too much already.

Here is my B&N haul so far:

The Adventures of Antoine Doinel
Simon in the Desert
4 by Agnes Varda
The BRD Trilogy
Eric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales
John Cassavetes – Five Films
Grey Gardens Collection
Carl Theodor Dreyer Collection
Jean Cocteau’s Orphic Trilogy
Eisenstein: The Sound Years
Two Films by Chris Marker: La Jetee/Sans Soleil
M. Hulot’s Holiday
Bergman Island (my oops buy)
Mon Oncle
The Leopard
The Battle of Algiers
Scenes from a Marriage
Beauty and the Beast
Breathless
Amarcord
L'avventura
L'Eclisse
Earrings of Madam De..
Passions of Joan of Arc
Umberto
Symbiopsychotaxiplasm (my blind buy)
Bicycle Thieves
Pandora's box
Le Samourai
The Rules of the Game
Eclipse: Larissa Shepitko
Eclipse: Silent Ozu
Eclipse: Late Ozu
Eclipse: Raymond Bernard
Eclipse: Delirious Fictions of William Klein
Eclipse: Dusan Makavejev: Free Radical
Blu-ray: Wings of Desire
Blu-ray: The Seventh Seal
Blu-ray: Pierrot Le Fou
Blu-ray: Playtime
Blu-ray: Kagemusha

Screen grabs look fantastic..... and I like how they point out that the Blu-ray is currently cheaper than the DVD

I have never seen the "short" featurette that is included, so I'll wait to get my copy to view that.

According to DVDBeaver... and maybe this is old news, but a few of the titles I hadn't heard yet...

"In 2010 Criterion/IFC will release Steven Soderbergh’s “Che,”, Jan Troell’s “Everlasting Moments,” Olivier Assayas’ “Summer Hours,” Steve McQueen’s “Hunger,” Hirokazu Kore-Eda’s “Still Walking,” and Abdellatif Kechiche’s “The Secret of the Grain.”"

Default Last Year at Marienbad - Blind buy or not?

This film intrigues me, but I haven't found much discussion about it and let's face it, I didn't scroll through all pages of this thread to find out.

Is "Last Year at Marienbad" worth a blind buy? I like to buy films that lend themselves to repeat viewings and not just sit on the shelf so much.

Thanks!
Kevin
