I've been a Sony boy ever since; I owned the first PlayStation in the Philippines, and later on went to own a PlayStation 2 and PSP. Now, I'm still going strong with them, and I still use my PS3 to this very day.
Happy birthday, PS3! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Love my PS3. Got it at launch... absolutely the best console I have ever bought. Scratch that... it's the best piece of hardware of any type I have ever bought. And frankly well worth the $600 I paid at the time.
My only regret? Wasting $300 odd bucks on the 360 the year before. |

Honestly? it was that first 'On' moment, when the symphony was warming up. I believe I first put "Resistance:TFOM" in and nearly peed myself.
Alas, I had to pack it up, since I was in the midst of moving to Dover, Delaware (a complete dung hole, by the way. Great place to be if you never want to go anywhere else... nearest airport in 1.5 hours away, and the Capitol building is smaller that most lecture halls at my undergrad...). Plus, the apartment I was living in only had a 13" tube TV. (Longest 3 months of my life...) But - I bought a Blu-ray copy of The Last Waltz (to compare with the DVD), and wouldn't you know... Even on a 13" tube TV, transmitted over an S-video cable I STILL saw a difference vs. the DVD! I've been hooked on Blu and the PS3 ever since. My 20 GB launch hard drive has definitely shown it's limitations and I'm currently looking into upgrading, but unlike some other platforms, my PS3 has never disappointed, always had all the latest upgrades and delivered performance that outshined even the newest Blu player, and NEVER ONCE gave me a RROD!!! Happy BD (that's Birthday, not Blu-ray Disc ![]() Cheers, Doc |

Happy B-Day PS3!!! I can't quite remember what my first movie was (maybe the original "Fifth Elememt" release), but I just remember being very excited watching the movie on my 21" PC monitor. Resistence: Fall of Man was the first game I played and was so impressed. Was the best $600 investment and still going strong.

I was finishing up undergrad that Fall, so I had some gift money building up from relatives. I remember walking into a Wal-Mart to buy something, and decided to wander over to the games section, and saw a lone 20gb PS3 sitting there.
This was about a week after it was released. So I bought that, and had buyers' remorse almost immediately. After taking it home, I ate a quick dinner at my desk, while looking up which game I should buy first. I settled on Resistance, and drove off to Circuit City to pick it up, along with a 2nd controller. The cashier at CC mentioned they just got a truck in, and had some PS3s on it. I asked them to check if they had any 60gbs. They did, so I bought one. The next day I brought back the 20gb to Wal-Mart. Sometimes I feel sad that I can no longer imagine being that excited about video games. The release of Rock Band 1 came close. I was in grad school at that point, and had a final the day RB1 was released (we were on a quarters schedule, not semesters). I got up early and drove over to Target, they were out of the PS3 version, but I luckily found one at the GameStop in that same plaza. I drove home to my apartment, and then caught a bus up to campus to do some last minute cramming for my test. At that point it was probably 11am, and my test was at 4pm. The anticipation was killing me. I sat on a couch in one of the private lounges, trying to read a text book, but all I could think about was how cool the drums must be in RB. After the test was over, I think there was definitely some pep in my step as I hurried over to the bus stop to go home. I think the game (or, specifically, the clanking of the early model drums) drove my roommate crazy though, so I eventually started to only play it when she wasn't around. I miss college, and the relative lack of responsibility, so that I felt like I had the time to get excited about playing a video game all night. |

My best memories were playing Oblivion at night and then not realizing it's already 4am. Also first reading about folding@home. Whats crazy is now I am building a dedicated PC just to fold on 24/7.
Other things I will always remember: I remember playing Heavenly Sword and thinking how awesome the Sixaxis was. I remember watching my first blu-ray and being blown away. I remember playing Gran Turismo Prologue for hours with a Logitech Wheel. I remember how terrified I was playing Dead Space, and saying "I just wanna go home!" again and again while playing. lol I also now think that I will always remember the train scene in Uncharted 2 ahhhh good times. ![]() |

Great thread!
My best moment was playing Little Big Planet for the first time with my daughters. I couldn't believe I had paid $60 for a stupid (likely lame) kids game, but considering the stash I bought myself, I had to throw them a bone. OMG we have never laughed so long and so hard. I thought about suing Media Molecule for busting my gut. Almost a year later, I still can't get my kids to play any other game. |

not really 3 years yet (Europe launch date was march 23), so many ups (getting all new functions with the first firmware updates, getting the first reference Blu-rays - Blade runner, Pirates of the Carribean, having Warner Blu-ray exclusive - I cried, yes, really) and downs (my 60 Gb died on 17 june 2009), the PS3 is part of every day of my life, using as media server, gaming, watching new Blu-rays, seeing if I have new messages from PSN friends ...
