The LFE is spectacular.
Probably still my favorite for 7.1 but there are just so many movies now with such good AQ it's really hard to say. I guess it depends on my mood what disc I wanna throw in.

EDIT:

Just watched Kung Fu Panda only 2nd time since it was released but first time with my setup complete - this is true demo material for LFE, use of surrounds and crystal clear dialog. I Usually don't comment much about center channel use but this movie also put the CC-690 to work!!

A few BD's I've watched recently that I felt had reference audio:

The Star Trek TNG films sound excellent in TrueHD, especially Nemesis.

Signs uncompressed PCM track features excellent usage of surround atmosphere as well. Very enveloping.

I was also very impressed with the TrueHD track on Contact. The opening shot and "ready to go" scene near the end are terrific.

Underworld: Evolution's uncompressed PCM track is just an all around awesome track. Great bass extension and surround effects.

Van Helsing's DTS-HD track is just plain loud, but good given that you find the right volume level. Good stuff though.

+1 CR is a clear step above QOS as far as audio is concerned.

I think specs wise the best audio track by far and so far is only available on Akira. It's not 7.1 but it has a Japanese hypersonic track with 24 bit 192khz audio all around. My copy came with a small booklet explaining the hypersonic effect. the movie itself is great as well. If you dont like subtitles, the english track is only 20bit 48khz.

That track as you mention is ONLY the best specs wise......in real world listening, it is surpassed by many tracks on BR. There is quite a bit of noise on this track that sounds like tape hiss that detracts from the listening experience quite a bit.

it was marvelous! well my lack of english grammar doesnt help when i try to explain some stuff, but i hope you get what i mean hehe
Lol! That must mean your sound system was workin' it, big-time!
I get that sometimes, especially from a track I haven't viewed in a while.

There are so many great-sounding BDs now. Add this one...

The just-released Fight Club BD is a fine example of a non-recent film (10 years old) whose audio will really surprise some viewers. It's soundtrack is highly dynamic, and carries a high sonic quality not expected from a film of its age.

DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 channel. IMHO, for the audio nuts, this BD is worth the upgrade from DVD based on audio alone.

hands down the best audio QUALITY (not big bangs that shake the room ) is definitely master and commander, the subtle creaks and groans of the ship truly draw you into the film, which at the end of the day is what its supposed to do

Huzzah. That's the right answer - so far, in my opinion, it is the #1 disc for audio. Nothing else so far has topped it.

Though I do agree that Master and Commander is great in audio that's why I bough but I do think that I robot comes in close. That is a great demo disc to show off any home theater and Casino Royale to.

While I agree that Master and Commander is probably the best QUALITY (Star Trek might have it beat though), it is far from the most impressive as far as sound and is definitely not one I use for demo purposes, but that is just me Just to name a few that serve as better demo discs would be Matrix Reloaded, Transformers (1:42-2:12 mark is insanely good HT audio), Cloverfield and The Incredible Hulk........I find the average person that comes to my house is more "WOWED" by these type of tracks and I am as well. Master is certainly impressive, but it takes more of a seasoned audio nut to really appreciate that type of audio track compared to one that is an all out assault on the senses.

Star Trek's AQ is mind blowing. The warp scenes and space battle have thunderous bass and dialouge and subtle sounds (like computers in the back ground) fill the room with audio bliss!

Oh definitely, that film is not for everyone. However, me being a history buff, it is my #1 favorite film ever. ::Shrug::

I could watch it countless times.

And if you don't think it's an assault on the senses, clearly, the Acheron's first attack scene or rounding the Cape, are all out assaults on the senses. Moreso than Transformers, I'd say. Cloverfield is close. Hulk is, too.

But these are all opinions, really, there's no one awesome disk that everyone will enjoy.

I do have to see about Star Trek, though...
