SpaceDog,

I'm not suggesting that WB not release anything at all while we wait for 2 years for Jackson to allow the EEs to go blu...

I'm saying that IMO Jackson should allow the EEs to go blu now, the first time around.

If the wait was a year or less, then yes, I'd say it would be better to have a single release than an obvious double-dip. But if it would be longer, then releasing now is better than nothing. My gripe isn't with WB, it's with Jackson not letting the EEs out given that they obviously could be given the current HD masters.

I don't think I will purchase the Theatrical editions on blu-ray wait for the Ext. Edition when it hit stores. Who knows when that will be by reading this thread.

According to www.theonering.net "Something is Coming" on December 8th (a Tuesday) and we should stay tuned to www.thelordoftherings.net for news.

The "phone call" link at TORN links to the WB web-site, which could mean Hobbit news or BD news, I suppose.

Given that the 8th is a Tuesday, is it a possible surprise release of the BDs for the holidays? Or just some Hobbit casting announcements and a possible greenlight for the films?

People's naiveté astounds me.

Do you think if this major money maker were being released in December, that they would advertise it..... rather than deliver them to the loading docks of the stores in black-vans in the middle of the night, and line the shelves with copies so the following morning people would find them if they happened to stroll down the Blu-ray Aisle???? I guess that's plausible as a marketing strategy.

We're talking about a studio that is releasing a version of a film on Blu-ray that is not the definitive version that both fans and the director consider the final film.
Not true, David. Peter Jackson has stated repeatedly that he considers the theatrical versions to be the definitive versions and the extended versions to be alternate versions.

Yeah, I can see why. I initially collected the EE versions of each film, but after seeing the extended scenes several times I now realize the films were better without them. That scene with Gandalf trying to smoke a pipe (and coughing so much he couldn't make it through a sentence) as he talked to Pippen was especially unfortunate.

I can totally respect his thoughts, but personally the bottom line is there is no way I am paying for these films twice (I like them, but I'm not a super-fan) so I'll be waiting until the most complete versions come out to make my purchase.

Supposedly PJ wants to make even longer editions.

An old magazine. Im not trying to spread rumours either, but I SWEAR when Kong was coming out in the theaters and TROTK was being released in the EE he did an interview where he was asked about production photos from the LOTR shoots that appeared in some trilogy companion that didnt mak it to even the EEs and he said that when HD DVD hit he wanted to go back and do even longer versions.

It was in a magazine I bought and I cant recall which one it is and I may be muddling different interviews...

And I beleive the photos in question would have been from the Fellowship as it was pictures of the fellowship being pursued outside the mines of moria, which save the passing reference, was axed from the film.

I can also confirm what he's saying. Back when all the movies were being released as EE, he said that he had even more material he had left out that some day he might insert. I actually think it was talked about in one of the special features on the discs.
It was also alluded to that it might occur when they were all released in some massive box set (but this was before the hobbit was moving forward).

Speculation since has centered around it being on the BRD's as some kind of branching that goes from the EE to the even more extra material.

As far as the announcement on the 7th, I am going to bet it is either Hobbit casting news or actual dates for the theatrical releases of the movies and / or the BRD's.

It is not some secret deployment of BRD's. There is no way that would be kept quiet.

Wasn't it LAST Christmas that PJ said he would give us the gift of anouncing the casting of Bilbo?

Those extra bits might explain how people can walk off a cliff edge with snow up to their necks????????????????????????????????

It suddenly flicks to the mines of moria entrance from there, which is a bit silly considering it would take the guys weeks to thaw it out.

They just didn't show that because you don't need to see that. Or did you think the entire journey to Mordor took only twelve hours?

Actually it took them about 10 hours in the theatrical and 11 and a half in the extended.
If they add MORE to the extended. . . I can't express how i'd feel. I mean, it's already day 1 purchase for the extended. But an extended edition of the extended edition.. That just sounds too good. . But i want to believe it. You just better be right!

The Versions that people are referring to are the Versions of the films the actors received It is supposed to include Scouring of the Shire, Actually Seeing Sam put the ring on and the effects it had on him, The rest of the fellowship making there eventual journey to be with the elves and Frodo in the undying lands, etc. Each movie is supposed to be something like an hour longer but I say take it with a grain of salt as this is all just rumor.
