But it's not a dealbreaker for me (I hardly notice them, especially if I concentrate on the text).
I just had a quick look into the Australian release and IMHO it looks just great. I compared it with some screenshots of the Japanese Sony disc I had found here on avsforum, and it looks the same to me (except for a slight difference in color, that most likely will be due to differences with my setup). Unfortunately I cannot take any screenshots, because I lack the required software (I cannot bypass the copy protection...).
I really cannot imagine the French release to look any different/better. Maybe/Hopefully there will be a proper comparison sometimes in the future, but for now I'm very happy with my purchase, and would recommend the Australian release to anyone in need of English subtitles.
Just my 2 cents.

Well if the Japanese BD looks the same with the Australian one, to you, then we have a BIG problem.. From what I can see from the avs forum screenshots, the colours are all "washed out" compared to the French edition. This means that they DID use a different source and did a remaster. You can see it clearly from the computer screen shots I post below.
Comparison between French and Canadian BDs. I will do the same with the Australian when I receive it within the week
