I was completely confused after watching it at the movie theater but I knew I liked it and have loved everything repeat viewing since then.

I also think that The pixies track at the end is one of the best tracks used in a movie. Fits perfectly.

Canada Avoid all spoilers if you are yet to see this movie...

Rented it on a Friday night for my first viewing back in 2001, returned it afterwards, BOUGHT the DVD the day after and watched it again. I really dug this movie years back, haven't seen it in awhile. I was shopping at Ikea on Saturday for a DVD stand and this movie certainly popped in my head, I chose to not go with the Ikea furniture for very similar reasons as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Same here. Its in my TOP TEN favorite movie list. It was this movie that made all Fincher movies a must see for me after this one. This is my GREATEST blind buy ever when it first came out on DVD. I don't think that I will ever have another blind buy that equals this one.

One of my favorite movies of the 90's!!!
Yeah, after I first watched this I started asking everybody at work if they had seen this. All I kept getting was a bunch of no's. Everybody thought that it was a joke in having Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in a movie with fighting as its main theme. So I just lent out my DVD to some of them trying to explain that there is only about 5 min of actual fighting in the movie.

Wow CZAR! How are you missing all these great movies(I am not trying to badger you). But Fight Club just came out on Blu. Do you plane on seeing it soon. I would love to hear you take on this after you see it.

CZAR,

Just go right ahead and blind buy it. Visually, it's very good. Sonically, it will blow you away. The lossless soundtrack is to die for. And yes, it's such a well put together story. If you like smart dialog, you won't be disappointed.

Got 'em...

One of my favorite movies - too bad so many critics dismissed it as a movie about "fighting". I sometimes wonder if they even watched the whole movie or just left half way through.

How could you not love the dialouge in this movie:
"If I had a tumor, I'd name it Marla".

And I love the Power Animal.

"Slide".

Just great stuff.

i think we just put our thumb on fight club's major error: asserting a philophophy that yearns to be independent of the underlying club activity, and yet the films success rises or falls with the underlying club activity.

this is why i just like Fight CLub as purely an action thriller. i love it in that genre. beyond that...not so much.
The fighting is an underlying message to the new male in society. That the male is now amongst women, maybe more so in relying on materialistic items while living a metro sexual lifestyle. The things that made us "models" for god has vanished and men look to fighting to bond and to feel as if they did when men were just that... men and to compensate for what they've lost in a generation being raised by women.

Had forgotten how long this movie is. Tired now so will finish it tomorrow for sure. Was even better than I remember it being and am 100% happy that I got it on blu-ray.

I honestly cannot fathom how some people do not see this. It's not the end of the world, but when you meet people who seem to have understood A Space Oddesey 2001, yet Fight Club goes over there heads it confuzzles me.

The loss of masculine joie de vivre. The societal abandonment of the testosterone-laced identity of what it WAS to be a Man. Products and status have replaced far too much in our masculine identity, and Fight Club was about getting back to that which was lost.

It seems to me, the reason why some people miss out on the message is because it's fundamentally true. This HAS happened so much in society, some folks don't see it as a reality, and so go looking for some other point.

Cheers,

Doc

Actually I have the opposite problem. I completely understand and love Fight Club but do not understand the big deal about 2001.

I'm not sure I completely understand fight club (its themes are very wide reaching in there effect and what they mean). I however understand it (and enjoy watching it) a lot more then I will ever understand 2001 (which seems very pseudo 'intelligent' to me). I guess to wow one person, you must dissapoint another.

One person's garbage is another man's gold I suppose. (Not calling 2001 garbage by the way. Just an expression.)

Forgot to mention in my post yesterday that I love how there was actually no Fight Club thread up until this point.
