Jeff,

Do you have any insight on why Showtime is releasing "Tudors - Season 3" only on DVD, when it apparently is being released on blu-ray outside the US? The idea of originally watching something on hi-def TV, but only being able to purchase a DVD copy is annoying.

I guess I will pick up the UK version (It would match my other two seasons, both of which are BBC blu-ray).

It appears that "Defying Gravity" will be DVD only, but, that is understandable since apparently only me and five other people watched the show regularly.

So it looks like SG:U is going to be released in half-season sets. Annoying unto itself. Further it looks like it'll be DVD only.

I finished supporting Stargate on DVD with the SG:1 complete series set. I won't pick up Atlantis until/if it comes to blu-ray, and this series will be the same (presuming it ever captures my imagination in the way SG1 and to a lesser extent SGA did)

Any thoughts?

Different companies?

Sony's releasing it on Blu-ray in the UK, and It's being released in Canada on Blu-ray as well via another company. Paramount's releasing it here in ths US.

I thought I'd let you know about the Canadian version, though I understand you wanting to get the BBC version to match your previous seasons.

Hi Jeff - do people do this for lcds/plasmas?

Sounds like an interesting experiment might be on the cards

it is funny, how i don't mind black bars top and bottom but they annoy me slightly at the sides.. i guess the bigger the screen the less of an issue it becomes.. my room is maxed out at 40".. but i would love to go to 50" at some stage

i've found myself buying older films on blu-ray recently.. i actually think they benefit the most on blu-ray in terms of restorations and being able to see them in correct aspect ratios etc.. its like seeing them for the first time as opposed to poor analogue transmissions from my younger years..

The original BLu-ray demo disc had some great splitscreens of Kingdom of Heaven that moved back and forth showing more SD, more HD. Personally I think that's something that needs to go on every catalog title, some kind of long reel of popular movies of all genres with popular directors walking you through it.

I never follow the whole "too big for my room" stuff. It's too big when you can't get it through the door

Don't parse that V is coming to Blu-ray, I'm being optimistic. A second season renewel will certainly help the cause on that.

CBS doesn't own Tudors elsewhere and probably doesn't see enough of a domestic market for it. Just buy them from Canada

SHUCKS!!

Now that WB won't be putting out "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" ( ) and "Pushing Daisies" ( ), I'm hoping they will at LEAST keep up their current TV on Blu-ray output. Among those titles high on my list are "V" and "The Big Bang Theory". Both seem to appeal to the early adopter demographic....

Blame all the people who bought that Ron Moore Space show in droves at $100 a season SRP. Not only have they ripped off nearly everything about it, including having their tripods stolen, superficial screwing in the closet, and everything but cutting the corners off books, but now you too can pay more for the DVD sets.

Any |Blu-ray release would be full season. These half season sets that some shows are getting are strictly for driving new viewers because they're doing well.

I didn't say V won't get a Blu release other, but if it gets capped at 4 and out, it ain't happening for sure

Jeff,

I actually tend to agree with you on the above.

I hate the way they did BSG seasons two and four, and I hate the way they've done "Eureka", and will soon do "Glee", though at least the latter gets a FULL season set later this year.

I like "Stargate Universe", but I also agree that they seem to be trying too hard to rip off BSG... and I REALLY wish that they would just come out and clarify Robert Carlyle's character because this "is he or isn't he" is getting kind of old.

So we should disregard the Amazon pre-order and announcements for "Stargate Universe", or are you referring to "V"? Also, would that mean that when Ron Moore's space show's second season comes to Blu-ray, that it will be combined instead of two seperate releases? Also, what does this mean for season four (4.5 already being released)?

I know, I was just hoping you knew something we don't! Shame about the above though as I'd be happy for even the 4.

It's actually a little bit worse that the half season of SGU is on blu-ray. Now I need to decide if I should pick it up to encourage more Stargate on blu-ray when I'm annoyed by half season sets and have yet to see an episode that convinces me this is going to be a good series.

I am glad they aren't leaving blu-ray out... but the double charge for 2 half seasons and a half season that could have been told in 4 episodes is kinda frustrating.

That could not be more accurate. I'd scoop that up on Blu.
