Key phrase. Not all tv's are created equal and a lot don't have good deinterlacers.

No matter what it is always best to keep the chain native. Any time there is additional processing there is the chance of artifacts or other image degradation.

But for the general public, they probably wouldn't notice. Hell most don't even notice lossless vs lossy audio. I would rather have the best they can do rather than stoop to the lowest common demoninator.
