It was in a magazine I bought and I cant recall which one it is and I may be muddling different interviews...

And I beleive the photos in question would have been from the Fellowship as it was pictures of the fellowship being pursued outside the mines of moria, which save the passing reference, was axed from the film.
Could you scan that magazine and post the interview? It sounds interesting news. . . .

As for the scouring of the shire, Peter Jackson has stated numerous times that they never filmed it. Time and lack of funds prevented it, as well as editing in the original script for FOTR.

Frodo left the Shire on Sept 23 and dropped the ring on March 25 of the following year. The Scouring of the Shire takes place on Nov 3 of the same year.

I could be mistaken, but I thought thouse comments were in relation to never filming any scenes related to Tom Bombadill.

The scouring of the shire I had also heard was filmed and might make and appearance with those other items as mentioned above.

I don't have it any longer. I purchased it in December of the year that the EE of Return of the King came out a year prior to Kong being released (and the interview focused on Kong but talked about the LOTR trilogy because it was conducted and released right around the time the Return of the King EE was released). I bought it on a lunch break solely because it had that information and I was giddy as all hell. Unfortunately, I moved cross country the day after that Xmas and it got lost in the shuffle.

So in fairness, as I stated above, I'm not trying to spread rumors or act like I'm privy insider knowledge. I'm just passing along something I'm 100% positive I read whether it comes to fruition or not.

And it had nothing to do with what versions of the films the actors received, at least based on this interview. Peter Jackson's response was brief and it was because he was asked about a trilogy hardcover companion book that had come out that had stills of numerous scenes that didn't make into the EEs. And, I'm very muddy on this point, but I seem to remember it being in direct reference to the Fellowship being trailed right as they mourned Gandalf exiting the mines of Moria ( a thread almost entirely non-existent in the film but prevalent in the book). He basically went on to say that when the new HD formats arrive in a few years (and I believe he specifically said HD DVD) that he wanted to go back and make the definitive cuts.

So again, its all I'll say about it as I can't back it up but I swear I'm not lying.

On the EE commentaries Jackson mentions the "Super Deluxe Extended Editions" but whether or not he is joking or serious is unclear.

Here are the scenes that were filmed but did not make the final cut (whether in the TE or EE):

- Elrond and Arwen visiting Galadriel in Lothlorien
- The Fellowship encountering orcs in Lorien after leaving the Mines of Moria
- Frodo briefly turns into a Gollum-like creature which Faramir witnesses
- Sam passes through those evil bird-like statues before reaching the tower
- A brief past glimpse of Arwen and Aragorn when they were young, frolicking
- Legolas and Gimli's epilogues (Legolas hunting in a forest/Gimli examining diamonds)
- Two young female elves running through a forest (in one of the trailers)
- Merry's line "We will see the Shire again"
- Merry holding Pippin on his lap as Pippin sobs
- Sauron in full physical form encountering Aragorn at the Black Gates

Fyi Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire were never filmed

Some of those scenes were cut because they simply didn't work. Both the Frodo turning into the Gollum-creature and Aragorn fighting Sauron are documented in the bonus material on the EE. I think Aragorn fighting Sauron would be disastrous, and if Jackson ever releases a longer cut that he didn't include that one. Frodo turning into Gollum was actually an interesting idea.

You should read through the last page or so, or check the "News" section of this site....

When something is announced, rest-assured, there will be discussion of it.

I remember an interview covering this topic as well, but it wasn't about makingthe extended cuts longer, but merely adding more special features material that he filmed and kept specifically for a more extensive release.

Repeat just more special features not longer cuts of the films.

Damn nothing yet. What the hell is keeping warner for releasing this highly anticipated movie trilogy. It was supposed to be released this month. And now they don't even have a new date. I am a bit

They probably want it to coincide with The Hobbit movie that's still in the script phase (I think).

As I recall, there was also some footage of Arwen fighting at Helm's Deep. That footage was also cut, as Jackson correctly surmized the outrage from fans of the book, myself included.

I cannot recall in what feature of the DVD set you see it but you do see the rough cut of Arwen with Aragorn at Helm's Deep and Jackson saying that they realise later on that it would never work and did not make much sense.

He had slowly been taking form ever since his defeat in the Second Age. He eventually occupied Dol Guldur (formerly Amon Lanc?) where he was known as the Necromancer. He left Dol Gurdur for Mordor in Third Age 2941 after being confronted by Gandalf and the White Council.
