I just got my Marantz SR6004 yesterday.

Right now, setting it up and getting it broken in. Just wondering what other owners are doing with their settings. Audyssey, sub, channels, EQ, etc.

Any problems or praise?

It is too early for me to say anything, it hasn't been 24 hours yet. But it is pretty.

I have the SR6003 and i'm very happy with it. My one complaint is that i am forced to internally decode HD audio so i can use the SR6003's acoustic EQ, which includes the audyssey EQ. For some crazy reason Marantz decided to disable the EQ for bitstreamed HD audio(which includes your SR6004). It's supposed to be some kind of "feature". Unfortunately, there is no way to know this until after you purchase it. Some reviews do mention this "feature' but many don't. Why even put the HD decoders and Audyssey MultEQ in the receiver if you can't use them together?

Default Sr6004

On the PREFERENCE menu, under AUDIO, I have three choices, Main, Sub or Main+Sub.

What is the difference?

I have it set to Main, think that was the default. Switched between the 3, no difference.

I'm the opposite, I turn Audyssey off on my SR8002 , the adjustments it makes are just not pleasing to me. I turn the EQ off, use a tape measure and an SPL to manually set up the speakers and I'm done.

the problem i'm referring to does not affect the speaker distance or channel level, it's just the acoustic EQ. The receiver has 4 types of acoustic EQ, Audyssey, Audyssey Front, Audyssey Flat, and a manually adjustable EQ called "preset". All four are disabled when you bitstream HD audio.
Audyssey calibrated my front speakers to -8.0 at 16kHz and the surrounds to -5.0 at 16kHz. I much prefer this because is sounds more natural and when i turn the EQ off it still sounds good but when I listen to movies or concerts at high volume the high frequency's can be uncomfortable on the ears.

Listener fatigue is usually related to speakers (primarily) and all the other components are a distant second.
I have my 7002 speakers set to large (DM602) and the center channel (DM600) set to small. I ran the audyssey eq and noticed a slight high frequency rolloff.
It's news to me that the audessey calibration is not for the HD formats - strikes me as curious.

I found it very strange too, here's a review that specifically mentions the issue

Pretty much hand in hand, you need to run the calibration to set the EQ, it sets it all up at the same time. Rather than run the setup then go in and disable the EQ after, I bypass the entire shtick and just setup the speakers myself. That should clarify my statement a bit.

Here is an explanation of the Audio Mode, which on previous models was called Bilingual: The Audio Mode "...allows you to select from the Main or Sub channels of a bilingual AAC (MPEG2) HDTV broadcast when recognized by the receiver."

Thanks,

It reads like sub=subwoofer, main=main speakers??? The manual isn't helpful at all in understanding the functions, just tells you how to turn on or off everything.

It’s the strangest thing . I have a SR5004 receiver and always used it with my Nintendo Switch (LPCM 5.1 audio). Then I had a kid and didn’t use it for two years. Now when I hook up the Switch, the receiver produces no sound . In fact, it says NO DATA on the screen and none of the speaker icons light up. I’ve reset the receiver and tried the same cable directly in the TV and that gets digital sound from the Switch no problem. I’ve also tried a blu-ray player through the receiver and that plays back with full sound no problem. I’ve spent hours testing different cables and inputs all to no avail! The SR5004 refuses to recognize sound from the Switch. Any ideas?
