Please keep Rob Zombie away from everything I care about

Yes I watched Blood and Fire 2

Nothing that'sbeen scheduled is caught up in MGM's legal wrangling

Proyas and Jeff Most ( think that's his name) don't get along. Most was holding a third sequel over their head that was going to star Eminem, and the deal for Proyas's participation in the Crow SE was that Most not be involved. They decided to stroke Most's ego instead, and Proyas pulled all the materials he owns (the documentary and the vHS with the deleted scenes on it). That's why Disc 2 is so anemic on the SE. Miramax also has his commentary on ice.

BD80 freezing issue supposedly fixed, but I've been in New York so I haven't had time to test it yet

And good news for Riddick fans

Haha...

The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting.

P.s. I thought it was sooooo cool to be able to read your comments on a plane... Haha... from that altitude?!?!

Thanks, Jeff! Good to hear.

And, BTW... speaking of near-term upcoming releases... even though I'm 99% confident on the answer to this question, I owe it to myself (considering the subject) to cover that last percent: Did you ever manage to dig up a confirmation on the transfer being used for the Digibook Goodfellas set?

The oracles on such things are pretty much closed till after CES, people are too busy to research that kind of question

I would add that such things with Warner are extremely rare. If I were a betting man. I would place money on NO.

But I could be wrong.

Oh, believe me, that 99% certainty I referred to begins with an 'N' and ends with an 'OT A CHANCE IN HELL'.

Here's to hoping, yes?
If it indeed turns out to be a better transfer and has lossless audio (it should) then Ill get it.

Oh, yeah. If it has a new transfer, I'll pre-order it in a heartbeat. Otherwise, I won't touch it.

What is the issue with the current transfer?

There's no one particular 'issue' with it; it's just long-in-the-tooth, raggedy and a little gunky. I find it perfectly acceptable, but a lovingly-performed new transfer would present an opportunity for significant general improvement.

Good -> Great

Hi Jeff,

Do you know anything about Best Buy getting "Boogie Nights" as an exclusive on the 15th?

Thumbs up

Jeff, once again B. Hunt and the good folks over @ The Digital Bits have "hit the nail in the proverbial head". Someone at Universal needs to wake up, and realize that NOBODY wants the "flipper discs". B.Hunt on "flipper disc" feedback.

Those kinds of retailer exclusives on something they're shipping anyway often happen under the radar.

V got renewed BTW and they're putting it as the lead out of LOST starting in March (they won't crank production back up till January). Probably a good pairing, there's going to be a lot of serial drama fans tuning in for those last eps.

Hopefully the new show's success motivates WB to release the original TV films on Blu.

I wouldn't be suprised if that were under discussion, at least for the original

I thought we were past the days of "boiling your disc for 5 seconds".

I will NOT be buying any flipper discs.....

The BDA should really step in and put a stop to flipper discs. High Definition packaged media can't afford another black eye.

Can we *hope* for lossless audio? After all... it is a "TV Show" so that seems to get old-school mentality mastering from the WB TV division.

Regarding flippers...

The biggest problem with flipper-discs...

folks putting it in their DVD player on the blu-ray side and having it not work and not understanding why, or folks putting the DVD side in their BD player and watching DVD-quality video thinking that's what blu-ray looks like.

Ugh. No one gets out a microscope to read the spine and regular consumers don't get the idea of one side not working in their DVD player.

Agreed.

I'd rather see some effort put into 75 or 100 GB discs which are backwards compatible with current players than have flipper discs with a DVD side.

BTW, I haven't heard anyone bring this up about flippers... will the blu-ray side even be 50GB? Or are we talking 25 GB BD on one side and DVD on the other? My bet is that flippers will be limited to single-layer 25 GB on the blu-ray side...
