What Are Your Top 5 Drama TV Series Of All Time? - Blu-ray Forum

Ok forget the title. List your top 5 hour long tv series of all time! No sitcoms included. We already have a top 5 Sitcom thread which was a good idea. So how about a top 5 tv series list? That would mean hour shows unlike sitcoms which are 30 minute shows. Shows that had multiple seasons also! I will start it off with:

1. 24
2. Oz
3. New York Undercover
4. Miami Vice
5. Beverly Hills 90210 (original)

This wasnt as hard as the sitcom list but it was still difficult. Anyway lets get this crackin! Got Em!!

Can't think of anything else because most of TV viewing involves sitcoms and stand-up on Comedy.

Anything that would be considered a miniseries (hour show that usually comes on once a week) They are usually drama based but there may be some exceptions. I just wanted to make sure it was no sitcoms or movies! So pretty much whatever u would think qualifies in that regards! Got Em!!

Because a mini-series is just that: a series that is for a limited number of episodes.

Yeah but that's the thing. There is a big difference between a mini-series (Band of Brothers--limited number of episodes) and an hour-long drama series (Sopranos--multiple seasons).

Yea to make it simple, u can list any show that runs for an hour that has multiple seasons! Again they are mostly drama based or action anyway but there are exceptions. So yes miniseries. Shows that come on with a certain amount of episodes for a season until the next season. Got Em!!

In terms of mini-series, there is no doubt that Band of Brothers is the best of all time. There are many other good ones, however, so it is basically a battle for second. Planet Earth is another fantastic mini-series but since I have no idea what Czar is looking for, who knows if it counts.

As for hour long drama series, I think Lost and the Sopranos are far and away the two best of all time, although there are def some other good ones.

I never watched Band of Brothers but doesnt run for an hour per episode and doesnt have a certain amount of episode for each season? If so then it counts! Lets not make this complicated! Just list what u feel and from what I explained. Got Em!!

Czar, no offense, but you have no idea what a mini-series is

A mini-series is a series involving a limited number of episodes that is ONE season long. Band of Brothers is a perfect example, with I believe 12 hour long episodes.

A series involves multiple seasons with x number of episodes per season (which usually varies. see: Lost).

They are not the same thing.

Miniseries (not necessarily in order):

1. Lonesome Dove
2. Band of Brothers
3. Planet Earth
4. Baseball (the Ken Burns thing)
5. Don't know, I don't watch many (and the last two were kind of pushing the boundaries).

Drama Shows (not necessarily in order):

1. Six Feet Under
2. The Sopranos
3. The Wire/Homicide Life on the Street (I grouped them together, because I am a rebel, and do what I want)
4. The West Wing
5. Deadwood
6. The Wonder Years (again, I do what I want, so I listed 6 instead of 5)

You should watch it--it is universally considered the best mini-series of all time, one of the best television shows of all time, and is arguably the best war movie or show of all time.

Episodes are an hour long. There is one season (mini-series). There are, I believe, 12 episodes.

The Wonder Years is only a half hour, but ya know what? It is such a good tv show that I think it should be allowed!

Nice inclusion of Deadwood btw, it ended too soon.

I'm gonna have to give a shout out here to Firefly. Yes it was only one season long, but it wasn't a mini-series and it was an hour long show. There has never been a show so blatantly sabotaged by a television station in history (they played the episodes out of order. Think about if the fourth episode of Lost was played before the first episode).

Great writing, great characters, great themes.
