Alabama opened up a full can of whoop @ss on Florida and it was such a freakin joy to watch!

Nebraska would win this game if they had a f'n offense! They have the worst offense I've ever seen. Texas looks like sh*t.

Unfortunatley Texas would never do this....don't get me wrong...I love UT but they would have scored again.

Speaking of UT...........how about that last second? McCoy did take a bad chance at that last play. Especially in a game where the refs seemed to be against UT the whole time. He's lucky they reversed that decision and gave UT that one second back.

What was really funny, I was in a bar FULL of UT fans watching this game. At the end, every UT fan in there went though every single range of emotions. From sad, depressed, and pissed to OMG OMG OMG I can't believe we won!!!!

Texas v. Alabama...............National Championship.........we're so gonna have our asses handed to us......

What?!? So the drive where you had the first field goal and there was a pass interference called on Hagg, that was a catchable ball? Not unless Texas players have ****ing flubber on their shoes. Not to mention all the cut blocks and holding calls that were missed. And the greatness that was the added extra second when the clock hit zeros. In the Big XII instant replay rules it states the only time a review is to be used is if the call on the field was reversed. There wasn't even anything reversed, so it wasn't even a reviewable play. But of course you said I was nuts or something like that for saying Nebraska could beat Texas...

This year is a year where there needs to be a playoff more than ever. Not ONE team is undisputed championship game material.

Yes, yes...Alabama dominated Florida. But both Alabama and Florida had very weak outings, and that's without even getting into the SEC ref controversy.

Texas sucked in its biggest games.

Cincinnati's biggest wins in conference are over West Virginia and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh didn't win a big game all year, and WV's only big win was over Pitt. At least they beat Oregan State. But again, in spite of playing for the PAC-10 championship, Oregan State's big games were all losses (except Cal).

TCU dominated its schedule, but in a year when the MWC seemed less impressive than the last few years.

Boise State probably had the best single victory of any team outside of Texas/Alabama, over Oregon. But what does one game on week 1 prove?

It's too bad then that none of these teams will be able to stand up and say "We beat everybody to come out ahead". Instead we have this crap we have now.

Very well said. Until we get a playoff system in place, preferably a sixteen team, we will never have a true national champion in college football. It has worked so well for so long in FCS, I'll never understand why it's not in place in FBS yet. It's mind boggling, after the current BCS contract expires we MUST MUST MUST go to a playoff system.

When the 4th quarter started, I was starting to fall asleep, it wasn't until about 2 minutes to go that I WOKE back up. Nebraska got that field goal and Texas started the drive down. When time ran out, all I could think was, omg, they pulled a Les Miles and gave the game away on the last play when they could easily have scored.

That was just a crazy game from start to finish. Interceptions leading to interceptions instead of points, stalled drives left and right, 3rd and 30 to go here and there, horrible sportsmanship with chop blocks on Suh (I wonder how long the announcers practice saying peoples names before the game to make sure they get them right).

If Texas had this many problems with Nebraska though, I don't see them taking Alabama out in the Championship. I'll still be rooting for them because I loathe Saban.

Nervous about the BCS announcements tonight. Most experts are predicting Iowa goes to a BCS bowl but it's not out of the question that Penn State could get in over them. I don't really understand it. Iowa might be the best traveling team in the country, and if they played in the Fiesta Bowl there'd be at least 60,000 Iowa fans down there. Arizona has a huge population of Iowans, and the fans will go anywhere warm in early January. When Iowa made the Orange Bowl there were 48,000 fans in Florida. I would hope they'd look at the fact that Iowa won at Penn State and Penn State didn't have a quality win all year.

Oh, so they're supposed to stop the clock 1 second after the ball hits the ground, not right when it does? Ok, now I understand. The whole thing was fair. Neither team had preferential calls, neither team played all that well but only one team of those is undefeated. UT deserves to be #2 and will give Bama all it can handle. They've played down to the competition all year and I think it will be a good game. Either team could win. Don't forget, everybody thought USC was going to murder UT in '06 and UT beat them convincingly. Now, I'm not saying UT is going to win but it'll at least be a good game.

I don't know if you even saw the game, but what happened was time ran out. The game was over then they went to the review booth to overturn the call. It explicitly says in the Big 12 Instant Replay rules that time can only be reviewed after a play is reversed. If they're going to just ignore rules during the games (most important moments mind you) what the hell is the point of a damn rulebook? Speaking of which, I think the Big 12 must have removed holding from their rulebook this year.

so the fact that it was correct means nothing? officials make adjustments and/or review this kind of thing at the end of games. Usually its as simple as 'please put xx seconds on the game clock' but because of the gravity of the situation they reviewed it.

remember, time keepers make mistakes all the time, from letting the clock run too long, or stopping it too quickly.

I was rooting for Nebraska, I like BCS chaos, but they got it right.

If that's the case, since every play is reviewed in the booth, they should have reviewed every incomplete pass, because in every other instance, time ran off the clock after the ball hit the ground. A little consistency and structure would be nice. If they want to review it put it in the freakin' rulebook. It even says in the rules:
Quote:
Section 3. Reviewable Plays
Side Line, Goal Line, End Line
Article 1. Reviewable plays governed by a sideline, goal line or an end line include:
a. Scoring plays, including a runner in possession of a live ball breaking the plane of a goal line.
b. A pass ruled complete, incomplete or intercepted at a side line, goal line or an end line.
c. A runner or pass receiver ruled in or out of bounds.
d. Recovery of a loose ball in or out of bounds in the field of play or an end zone.
Passes
Article 2. Reviewable plays involving passes include:
a. A pass ruled complete, incomplete or intercepted anywhere in the field of play or an end zone.
b. A legal forward pass touched by an ineligible receiver.
c. A legal forward pass touched by a defensive player.
d. A fumble ruled on the part of a potential passer. (Note: If the on-field ruling is forward pass and the pass is incomplete, the play is not reviewable).
e. A forward pass or forward handing ruled when a runner is beyond the line of scrimmage.
f. A forward pass or forward handing ruled after a change of possession.
g. A pass ruled forward or backward when thrown from behind the line of scrimmage. (Exception: If the pass is ruled forward and is incomplete, the play is not reviewable).
Miscellaneous
Article 3. Miscellaneous reviewable plays include:
a. A runner judged to have been not down by rule. (Note: If a runner is ruled down, the play is not reviewable).
b. A runner’s forward progress with respect to a first down.
c. Touching of any type kick by any player.
d. The number of players participating by either team during a live ball.
e. A scrimmage kicker beyond the line of scrimmage when the ball is kicked.
f. Clock adjustment when a ruling on the field is reversed.
g. A fumble recovery by a Team A player during fourth down or a try and before any change of possession.

Plays Not Reviewable
Article 4. No other plays or officiating decisions are reviewable.
Like I said before, if you're going to have rules, actually use them.

Officiating has just been horrible all season, but this one really chaps my ass. There really needs to be something done about the consistency of calls. For example, the helmet to helmet call. Some games they'll call it even when it isn't actually helmet to helmet, then others there will be tons of blatantly obvious helmet to helmet hits and they call nothing.

everybody always has to bag on the officials

If they hadn't reviewed it, the other half of the fans would be saying "what's the point in having replay if you don't use it during the most important parts of the game."

Having done quite a bit of reffing in my time, there is a tremendous difference between the letter of the rules, and the INTENT of the rules.

Whatever. I'm not going to get into it anymore. It clearly says in the rulebook no other calls can be reviewed. They didn't have to put that part in the rules, but since they did they should stand by it. If you think ignoring the rules is right, good for you. I for one think rules are made for a reason, and not to be broken.

I can't help but think they were trying to make up for last year for Texas, even though they were just standing by the rules then. And Texas fans conveniently forgot that they lost to Texas Tech.

I'm not trying to get you a riled up, I just think seeing the bigger picture is important. The intent of replay is to get it right. I won't argue any further, but perhaps when a situation comes up that doesn't involve your preferred team, we can renew this.

Ok, let's use the Florida State-Miami game of this year. They called an incomplete pass on the last play, and there was still a second left on the clock when the ball hit, but time expired. Game over. That's what the freakin' rules are for.

A big part in plays like the Florida State-Miami game is nobody cares if there should have been a second left. Neither team wants or expects the officials to review whether there should be a second left. It's similar to when a team does a kneel-down with around 48 seconds left and the refs should set the clock and make them run another play but instead they don't spot the ball and let the game end.

I don't know if the game should have been over. According to Dan Beebe, the Big 12 head of officials, it was the correct call to add a second, although he didn't actually see the play. Regardless, I can't believe how stupid Texas and McCoy were to run that play the way they did. Here's an interesting story about Nebraska's anger about the play.
