I really, REALLY want the EE versions to each be on a single disc. I loathe having to interrupt the movie flow with a disc-change mid-film. Folks who require bathroom breaks can take them whenever they wish by pressing pause, but I hate it when the format-break *forces* a pause whether or not it's the best spot or whether or not you wanted it.
That being said, if lowering the average bit rate causes the video to soften as it has with some other WB discs, then I'd rather prioritize PQ and spread over two discs. I'm hoping that with the VC1 compression experience over the past couple of years that the compressionists will be able to keep the video quality looking the same while tweaking the compression to lower the average bit-rate to get it to fit on a single disc. Hopefully when it comes out it won't look soft/filtered if they go the single disc route. My preference (in order): 1. a PRISTINE picture on a single disc. but if that's not possible, rather than a softer image or one with visible artifacts... 2. a pristine picture over 2 discs. |

So if we get:
[Video] 200 minutes = 12,000 seconds * 31.29 Mbps = 375,480 Megabits = 45.83 GB. [Audio] 200 minutes = 12,000 seconds * 4.55 Mbps = 54,600 Megabits = 6.67 GB. DTS-HD Master Audio English 4658 kbps 5.1 / 48 kHz / 4658 kbps / 24-bit. Not to mention language tracks and extra features. I'd put all extra features on separate discs and devote the entire 50 GB Blu-ray disc for the movie and some additional language tracks. Please note these bitrates are arbitrary and are not actual. Damn, the extended edition set is going to be crazy. We're probably looking at a 6 to 9 disc set, ![]() |

youre still looking at around 47.6gb and thats not including other languages (1.3gb per lossy d-digital language track) subs etc personally id rather see two discs and better quality, sure its a pain getting up to change but better that than sitting through the whole thing wondering what it could have been like |

hey if they can get it on a single disc without compromising picture quality then thats great, i certainly wouldnt complain, but having noticed a few "visual anomolies" on some of the earlier 25gb discs due to compression, i wouldnt want that to happen to my most anticipated blu-ray |

and obviously it will be on a 50gb disc, but my point was ROTK EE is twice as long as an average film, and on the earlier release blurays (on 25gb) there were some issues with the compression, so whilst yes its now got twice the capacity of earlier discs, it is also twice as long. |
