Exclamation Say Goodnight To The Bad Guy: Worst Casting Choices For Villains

Since the Spider-Man IV casting rumor was already in the official thread, I've deleted that part. Thanks Beta Man!

Here a few of my choices for worst casting blunders for villains. I'll update it as more come to mind:

Timothy Olyphant as Thomas Gabriel in Die Hard: Live Free Or Die Hard
He was about as menacing as a runway model on Xanax.

Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin in Spider-Man
Again, another actor who's too feminie for a bad guy role.

Billy Zane as Cal Hockley in Titanic
The hammiest villian in the the hammiest movie ever.

Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor in Superman Returns
Just admit it people, you were watching Spacey instead of Luthor.

Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin
Granted Ahhhhnuld's character was a classic unintentionally funny role, but this was just awful. "Iiiiiiiiiiice!"

Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut in X-Men III: The Last Stand
I love Vinnie Jones, except in this. While his line of "I'm the Juggernaut b*tch" is timeless, he just looked so awkward in costume.

John Travolta as Howard Saint in The Punisher
Ok, while he DOES have THE BEST a**hole move ever (throwing his wife off a bridge then she gets run over by a train), Travolta has never been quality at playing the bad guy.

John Travolta as Ryder in The Taking Of Pehlam 1 2 3
While he had the look, he was trying waaaay too hard, making it a parody more than anything. The trailers made me believe he finally pulled it off, but sadly, this was not the case.

Not sure I agree with the villian choice, how bout the lizard, or getting venom right somehow. I wish they would have named each movie differently instead of 1, 2, 3. It would have been great if they had something like the web of spiderman (part 1), the amazing spiderman (part 2) and so forth....

True, something different as we already had the flying bad guy in SP1.

Edit: Oops forgot about the official SP4 thread. Already asked a mod to change my title.

John Malkovich is a fine actor but if they are going for Vulture as the villian, go Ben Kingsley !!

Personally, I would rather see The Lizard finally get his time in the spotlight as villian.

Oh, and as for Hathaway being in it, Black Cat or nothing.. seriously Vulturness or whatever..dumb idea

John Travolta as Ryder in Taking of Pelham 123 of one of the worst movie villains ever. His performance was simply a pathetic caricature of just about every cheesy villain in cinema history.

This entry makes the entire list a joke.

Dafoe was awesome for the part.

That my opinion, bud. At least I gave more than a 1-word reason though. You are the most negative Canadian ever. Are you sure you're not from Detroit?

Awwww he was great in his hammie performance.
"How dare you PUT YOUR hands on MY fianCE!

A lot of Travolta mentions, but I think he was perfect in Swordfish.

Kristanna Loken in Terminator 3 was pretty bad.

Dafoe wasn't bad, it was the costume that was a joke.

Timothy Olyphant for sure. All I can picture is his Hitman character in the new Die-Hard film...it was kind of weird.

I actually liked Billy Zane as a bad guy in Titantic

Dafoe, in my opinion... was the best villain in any of the Spider-Man films.

It's sad how far Travolta has fallen (villain-wise), especially since his role in "Face Off" was exceptional (imo).

I agree, I think Dafoe was the best part of Spiderman 1.

Add me to the list of those who disagree with your opinion of Dafoe in Spiderman. I thought he was great; just the right amount of melodramatic acting, with a bit of tongue-in-cheek camp thrown in for good measure. He wasn't playing a bad-ass, but more of a lunatic. He also has many shades, sort of a Jeckel and Hyde persona -- confused, weak and sympathetic one minute, raving, angry, conniving, cold-hearted and completely out of his head the next. Dafoe also gets across that his character is a man barely able to keep his emotions in check; he always seems on the verge of erupting. Plus he is able to make those great comic book villain faces -- you know, eyebrows pushed down in an angry expression, but laughing at the same time. That expression, while a comic book cliche, doesn't really happen in real life. Yet Dafoe was able to express it. I guess his somewhat odd features help.

If you want to see how good Dafoe is at playing a villain, watch David Lynch's Wild at Heart. The movie isn't all that good, but Dafoe is creepy and menacing in it.

The "evil" King in Dragonheart... he was such a little wuss... I have a hard time buying into a villain I think my little sister could beat the living crap out of.

Sir Ian McKellen as Magneto.

i could not believe he was cast as Magneto and did not buy into him as a villain.

What, really? I thought he was one of the best things about the X-Men movies.

Also slightly more controversial, but I thought Kevin Spacey finally managed to make Lex Luthor a terrifying villain, something that Gene Hackman (although he's a fine actor) never did in his three performances as Luthor.
