Default Fan Noise?

How loud is the fan on the 1019? This unit is on my short list and it's time for me to upgrade from an ancient Sony. My PS3 "fat" has a loud fan (I keep the darn thing behind a bookcase to muffle the sound; and yes, it gets plenty of air back there). Do all or most of the units in this class have fans? I have a small "theater". I should call it a "theaterette". Consequently I don't need a huge amount of power. But I'm curious about the fan noise.

Same here my 60GB PS3 is starting to sound like a jet engine and its very annoying. How loud is the fan on the receiver? I dont want to deal with another fan disturbing my movies.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback.. Sounds like the VSX-1018AH is just as good as the 1019 but just 1 less HDMI. I only have an XBOX 360, Blu-ray player, and Directv so I will only need 3 anyways. I will definitely continue to research.

And I agree with being here too long might make me want to upgrade a lot lol.. But for now, I am happy with the Klipsch satellites. In a few weeks I will be buying a receiver, in Feb/March gonna get the Panasonic V10 50" Plasma, and then after that I will get 2 floor standing speakers to get the full 7.1 setup. This should last me until we get a bigger house where I can get a basement.

Last night was the first time I noticed it, and I only heard it for a second while it was stopping after a scene and everything got quite. It's not loud at all, like I said, last night was the first time I've heard it, so either it doesn't come on all that much and if it does I rarely hear it. If you have a smallish theater, I'm sure this will sound great. My room is 14 x 24 with low ceilings and it has been awesome for me.

oh and heres the review with tests, I tried posting it earlier, but it never showed up? http://hometheatermag.com/receivers/...h_av_receiver/
it's their top pick in Sep09 and it's very in depth, should give you a little more help in your research

you could also check out http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/Pi...SX-919AH.shtml for a review of the 919 or the little brother

actually lush, if your only have 3 hdmi, the 919 is about the same, except it only has 3 hdmi and it doesn't upscale the video, could save you $100

Lush23. If you can spare an extra $80, here's the route to take.
Pioneer VSX-9130 on Amazon.

I had the VSX-9120, and it's a very nice all around AVR.
For research, here's the link to it on Pioneer's website.

I want to buy this vsx-1019 receiver. But the surround back terminals input are missing on this model. Is there necessary to have these terminals to really listen a 7.1 audio sytem? Thanks.

I don't think that is true platinum.....look at this link, they are towards the bottom right of the pic....it is a 7 channel receiver......

Hi forsberg21, hmmm..I see the diagram connexion in the owner manual of this 1019 model, and physically in the store, in the "MULTI CH IN" section, it ONLY has 6 holes and the 2 holes reserved fot the Surround Back ( SB L&R) are not present. On some other brand names models like Denon 790 or 890, there are claerly 8 holes reserved for 7.1 Analog Inputs.
I wonder how this 1910 model handles the surround back chanels without the SBch inputs.

- Hi forsberg21, hmmm...I see ONLY 6 holes in the "MULTI CH IN" in lieu of 8 holes like on the other brand names models like Denon 790 or 890 which learly has 8 holes for Analog 7.1 Inputs.

Ref of page 28 of the 1910 owner manual: "If your player has 7.1-channel analog outputs, the player’s surround back output terminals are not used."

I wonder how this 1019 model handles the 7.1 audio system.

Default Not Bad

I've had this receiver for about a week now and am quite happy with it. I had a few head-scratching moments, but eventually got it all on track. Can't think of any major complaints. It's great streaming Pandora through my iPod. The so-called video up-convert ability isn't a high priority for me. I tried running the Comcast cable signal through it, but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I also think it's slightly insane that they tout this ability while leaving s-video connection off the unit. I actually had to go out and buy component cables to try this feature (I've got three or four s-video cables laying around)! BTW, I'm running the cable signal through a Panny DVD recorder (ES20). As for the sound, two thumbs up. The auto microphone set-up worked well. I chose to bump up the high end via the EQ, but that's about it for tweaking. I also wanted to boost the rears a bit, so I placed the microphone a bit closer to the front; worked like a charm.
