That's some pretty high praise. Sounds like I'm definitely going to need to pick this up.

I heard theres two versions the BBC and the US. I heard the US is in 1080i and its about 40-50 minutes shorter than BBC 1080p.

Not on Blu-Ray but Attenborough's Life In THe Undergrowth is slick too. Honest to God, you haven't lived 'til you've seen the Centipede who catches Bats in mid-air. Freaky, man!!!

Undergrowth doesn't have an overly great PQ but very informative. It's two discs and was BBC doc' as well.

I bought it when it first came out for $66 on Amazon. This is one that doesn't get old. You will watch it again and again. You'll keep asking yourself, "How on earth did they ever get that shot!" Some have called it the greatest achievement in television. Get the BBC version-- Attenborough has more class than Sigourney.

How can I tell if it's the BBC version or not? will it indicate on the box somehow?

Richard Attenborough is the narrator on the BBC version. Sigourney Weaver narrates the US version. It should be apparent in the listing on Amazon.

Mine should get here in a week or two. I bought it on the word of high praise, and to show off my blu-ray player.

I figure it is a great thing to play in the background during a dinner party.

David Attenborough isn't it? anyways, I am pretty sure it said it was narrated by him on the box I was looking at.

Both are BBC versions. It just aired on DiscoveryHD in the US. The biggest difference as others have pointed out is that the Discovery broadcast version with Sigourney is shorter to accomodate the ads, while the BBC version had the full version with Attenbrough.

There are also more extras on the Sigourney version. Neither versions have the making-of for each episode in HD; these making-ofs are available on the DVD version.

Seriously, BBC should tell Warner to redo the encoding with AVC while using BD50.

To the OP: and yes, get it.

It's worth it just for the footage of the Amur leopards.

Default Cheaper elsewhere

It's only $66.84/66.94 on DeepDiscount and amazon.com, respectively. But after seeing pieces of it on the Discovery HD channel, I felt it was worth getting.
