Default Paramount pulling titles?

I just noticed from amazon.com that Paramount is pulling their titles off......

Meaning they are discontinuing some titles, including we were soldiers.....

Does anyone know what is happeneing, and are we gonna see paramount films back on the shelves?

You might get some cheers and jeers on this website by doing this. Some people say "Do not support Paramount or buy their titles because they went HD DVD those bastards." Others will say "do it before they are gone!" You are gonna get 6 goin one way and a half dozen the other.

Personally I think they had some great titles and flawless transfers. Some movies (Shooter, MI: set, Babel, Black Snake Moan) I think are definatly worth picking up before they go but that is merely my opinion on the matter.

Buy them used. You get the discs you want and Paramount gets no numbers bump and no additional royalties

I agree completely. While it is tempting to avoid them given their decision, I'd rather have the movies now then wait a year plus to hopefully have them re-release some of their current titles.

Keep in mind that continuing to buy their BD's will show them that the consumer still wants BD. Besides, wouldn't it be the ultimate show of consumer decision when Paramount's BD titles outsell their HD-DVD counterparts 2 months AFTER they stop manufacturing them?

Like stated in thread posts above this one, why wouldnt you want to show paramount that you still want blu? Why wouldnt you purchase them from retailers so you could prove to them their mistake? So what if they get royalties from it? That part doesnt mean shit. Isnt it the sales of BD that show the way the market is heading? Wouldnt it only hurt nielsen if we bought used?

How can you say buy used when we are trying to prove to the market that BD is the way to go?

Paramount's HD media sales are...horrible. They have about half a dozen titles that have sold less than 1000 copies(Failure to Launch has sold 300 copies or so)

They know we want Blu, this is all about making an obscene amount of money in the short term.

I bought all Paramount titles that I wanted as soon as they made their announcement, but that's just because I didn't want to wait 18 months.

I refuse to believe that Paramount won't release more Blu-rays as soon as their contract is up.

I'm betting that they added the Speilberg thing so they could be legally able start to plan out and prepare the Indiana Jones Saga for their big "We support Blu-ray again" the same day as 'Kingdom of Crystal Skull' hits the streets on other formats. But that's just my guess.

Depends on whether you think TR is a good movie The disc represents the film well, but the movie doesn't look that great to begin with.

They added the Spielberg thing because he made them do it, because he contractually has control over how and on what format his movies are released

I agree with you the decision was almost entirely based on short-term financial gain. If everything plays out the way we would like it to, though, then there is no need to not enjoy those movies that they do have available at this time. I believe Paramount will come back around and while there are only a few movies out now that I want (We Were Soldiers, World Trade Center, Payback: Straight Up) I will still purchase them. No need to punish myself for the mistake of the studio.

As can be said of most companies, Paramount seems to respond to one thing: money. The only way to get through to them is to show them the money through your purchases of their BD titles.

My local Best Buy just got a new shipment of ex-Blu Paramount titles (a ton of Babel, Black Rain, Snake Moan..., We Were Soldiers, etc).

The Best Buy is on Golf Rd. and Milwaukee Ave. in Niles.
