I think for your price range the Panasonic AE4000 1080p would be the ideal budget projector for an anamorphic lense. I bought the Epson 8500 UB which is $299 more but had no interest in an anamorphic lense; if I did and was on a budget the 2K Panasonic would be a good option I do not know if the Epson 9500 sells any cheaper than the 3999 list price as they only sell it to factory installers? Remember those fancy anamorphic lenses can cost as much as a projector.

I think for a 156" screen you really want a projector with very high lumens that is still very natural in color and most are likely to be on the high side or more expensive than your budet and then you need more money for the anamorhic lense or just settle with a standard lense and either paint the wall or get the largest screen you can and do it in phases. First the projector then later the lense?

thanks for the feedback, i am still at least 10 months away from the projector upgrade, the screen size might get smaller as i think 156 is going to be too big. for the lens thing i believe i can tolerate the black bars for a starter. i prefer to get a better projector without a lens than a mediorce projector with the lens.

The Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector is an amazing projector for the money you pay. You will not be disappointed. The best thing you can do is to demo them if you get a chance. Mitsu also makes some nice projectors but IMO the price could not justify what you got.
