I know, but that still goes to show how much they would expect from what they're offering.

They'll probably be around $70 at release (At least I hope it doesn't go higher than that), except for at Target and Bestbuy. Target still charges $100 for the Matrix Collection in store, around here at least. And Best Buy still has the Spider-Man trilogy for $70.

Unless someone has a sale or I have some sort of gift card/coupon, I won't be picking them up until they hit $60. $20 a piece is the most I'm willing to spend.

Still waiting for extended editions... $99 seems too high for essentially 3 three movies... I am sure it will be cheaper come release but still...

Extended editions or bust...

That is what I am hoping to pay (for the EEs) which I'm betting will happen early on, that happened with the X-Men set before it came out. If done right, I will gladly pay $20 a piece which is more than I'll pay for the average catalogue title.

I'm really hoping that the extended editions come out with the release of this blu... Having them pushed back to a later date just makes the purchase of the regular theatrical cuts completely worthless. Regardless of extras that they are throwing onto the set, why can't they just release the EE's!?!

I mean this in the nicest possible way but, it is because they can make money out of releasing them again, again and again. So they will.

I may get shot for this but I didn't care for the trilogy at all. My wife loves them and will wait for the extended versions to come out, no double dipping for me on this one.

I think I made the mistake of watching all three films in a row and maybe that is way I don't like them.

So is this announcement official? Or is just a source like the Nov. 4th date we had?

Anywho, I don't mind the theatrical editions at all, so I will indeed be buying these.

It's official...

Quote:
DEC. 14 | PHYSICAL: Middle-Earth receives its long-awaited high-definition makeover on April 6, when Warner Home Video releases The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy on Blu-ray Disc.

The nine-disc set, priced at $99.98, will contains the original theatrical versions of the three Peter Jackson-directed Rings films—The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003)—along with more than seven hours of special features. The supplemental package will contain mostly special features that were on the various DVD versions of the movies, including featurettes that were originally on LordOfTheRings.net. However, the Blu-ray versions will offer high-def trailers.

The set also will include digital copies of each film and have BD Live access. Prebook date is March 2.

Pretty funny how that article skims over the fact that all the special features from the DVD's are on there BUT!!!....the Blu-ray versions will have TRAILERS!!....in HD. Talk about a lackluster selling point. Trailers in HD! Wow!!

If they keep pushing the date of the theatrical editions back, maybe it will eventually coincide with the release date of the extended editions.

I'm not as excited as I should be...knowing WB, they'll screw up the release and there won't be any DTS-HD tracks!!!
