How long until Blu-ray CDs? - Blu-ray Forum

I dont know the proper name for it but when is the projected release of any BD in a "CD" format?

BD will win this movie format war, so how long till it effects all disc media?

I am not into pirating anything (movies, music, etc) but I do have a significant amount of songs on my iTunes and I was curious to know if there was any inside scoop as to when I might be able to buy BD-100s that I could play in my car. I could fit my entire iTunes on 1 disc and this could be very very very very very good for me.

I used search as well as scrolling the internet and I couldnt find anything. Any news that I might have skipped over?

Not sure. I haven't heard anything, but I'm totally interested in a BD audio format that is pumped to the max in all technicalities.

obviously car stereo has intense surround sound in a very confined area... I would think that with 4 speakers standard and sometimes a subwoofer, it could be a very effective music medium... IMO

You'll probably have to wait until there are BD Navigations Systems to replace current generation nav systems. DVD's didn't break into car audio until the soccer moms decided it was an efficient way to keep kids quiet. If you want to get this goin' perhaps you should talk to "Stacy's mom."

I had assumed as much. iPods and mp3s pretty much have that whole ground covered but there are still some of us that prefer the cd... (or B-AD

Personally I am one of those people. I guess it is a pretty lofty goal but I was still wondering.

I think dvd's are too sensitive, and I bet blu-ray (and hddvd) is even more sensitive. Especially when it comes to making portable audio players and car players.

Plus audio CD's are still good for great quality sound. It could go higher quality though but very unlikely too happen. It's not like video in which you can clearly tell the difference. Only audiophiles and people with good receiver systems can tell the difference, even between an mp3 and a CD song.

Sly capacity reference humor.

Music DVD's didn't go over big for some reason. I think it is because everyone felt that d/l to an ipod device was the way to go. Who can blame them? Don't count on it. Just because they CAN make something, doesn't make it marketable.

DVD audio was not a well designed format. The only easy way to navigate them was to use the video interface. How many people have video screens in the car? Too much trouble just play some music.

I liked SACD much better. It is a lot easier to use. Unfortunately, last time I checked, they didn't have a SACD player for the car. Only a small number of titles were hybrids that would play on regular CD players.

And also, like you said, most people are happy with the sound quality of their i-pods and see no reason to upgrade.

I own somewhere over 300 SACDs and by far most of them are hybrid (play on CD players as well). I think that most SACDs in fact are hybrid these days. Unfortunately, high resolution audio recordings have become a niche market, not at all embraced by the current pop culture. It seems that in today's pop culture, convenience not quality, seems to be what sells.

I prefer CD and above PCM audio as well, but there's no reason why an iPod couldn't dock and act as a transport to a car system, using some derivative of the open FLAC standard.

It's hard to really say what's up and coming.

If there's a band with 5 instruments, i'd like to hear it out of 5 speakers. Likewise for 7 instruments (7 speakers), or a whole orchestra (anything from a classical orchestra, to a Balkan Gypsy Brass Orkestar, or a Rembetiko Orkestra). One channel, one speaker per instrument. And then think of the potential for surround CG sound.

I think new things will be coming for sound in Blu.

Wow! I have only 15 or so. Only a couple of mine are hybrid. I am not into classical and jazz so there aren't many choices.

Sony finally came out with an SACD player for the car this year.

hmmm u mean a Blu ray disc that has audio tracks for music use. never say "BD in a CD format"..a BD is a CD (campact disc)..however the coorect name for an audio BD for music use is....umm blu ray music disc

idk bredrin...some music companies areplanning on releasing B-AD next yr,,,they disc will be call B-AD

Probably never. My friend has a linux based system that will accept any HD you stick in there that fits in the dash.

Isn't CD .wav format lossless already? So blu-ray "cds" would be kind of superfluous

I don't know....if you can get TrueHD 7.1 out of it.....I'm not sure if you can get that out of a standard CD....not that it would be available on a "B-AD" for sure but that would make it worth it. I think we'll have to wait until they're much cheaper to produce anyway. You know how the music industry is. They're not going to let anything bite into that $12-$20 per CD that they can make for a penny or whatever it costs them. But yeah, I have a couple of those combo discs that have DVD video of a concert on one side, and the audio CD on the other side....so who knows......I think they're all made by Sony too......hmmmm.....

Never. People download songs and don't care about quality.

This will soon be the case with movies if this war isn't sorted out very quickly.

No form of digital sound is lossless. Unless TRUE HD sound is the exception. Digital recording is still a sampling rate of bits per second to record an analog waveform into the digital equivilent. The higher the bit rate the better the recording.

To my knowlege, only analog recordings are anywhere near lossless. Again, unless TRUE HD sound is the exception.
