"For this initial release, the transfers will present the films in 1080p HD video, in the correct widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1. English audio will be present in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 format, along with Dolby Surround, along with subtitles in English,..."

i am sorta excited, but april is so far away and smack in the middle of the busiest time of the year at work for me. So, I can easily see this getting buried away in my brain and then a week before I will be bouncing off the walls.

Someone really needs to wrangle the rights to LOTR away from WB. They suck.

I'm still waffling.

I want them badly, but I won't double-dip.

I wonder if the theatricals will be noticeably different to me since I'm used to the extended editions now...

i'm going to do the same. i'm a little baffled they're still milking the LOTR franchise, guess you can't blame them if ppl will triple and quadruple dip for these movies.

I'd rather see milking of LOTR than Star Wars! LOTR deserves all of the attention and double-dipping it gets.

Star Wars smells like nasty poo-poo.

I don't see this as a negative. It's needed for some PiP or Maximum Movie Mode features I believe. Plus, it's still a lossless track, and there are plenty of examples of spectacular TrueHD tracks. I think some folks are just looking for reasons to complain. My biggest beef is that I have to wait for the EE' as I'm not buying the theatrical.

I was kind of hoping for DTS since I rather the movies with the 1.5core instead of the 640kbps DD track (no HD receiver).

But after watching the movies on DVD the last few days, I thought their DD tracks were actually quite good, so the 640kbps should still sound pretty good on the blu.

Now a complaint from that stance I can understand.

I have been holding off on watching my DVDs for over two years. I'll be buying in April.

I just noticed the announcement says the special features are going to be on regular DVDs. That's....lame. Well not for me, since I've never even watched the special features on my DVD versions, but it is lame for those who like to have special features and have them in HD. That MSRP should go down a little bit since it is 3 BD, 3 DVD, 3 DCD (Digital Copy Disc) instead of 6 BD and 3 DCD.

Don't get me wrong, these will be day 1 purchases for me. I just wish they would release both versions at the same time, or that they had used seamless branching. It's just downright greedy to do what they are doing since the DVD release was the same way.
