You don't watch a movie like this for the story. This is pure eye candy from a special effects viewpoint: watch the end of the world in HD! No one advertised this film as anything other than what it is: CGI heaven! My wife is a hold over from the old 70's disaster films: Earthquake, Posiden Adventure, Towering Inferno, etc., so these Emerich movies are right up our alley. It's great! These are the movies that are MADE for BD!

+1....2012 is no worse, and argueably better than the disaster films of the 70's....but then, I also love the Godzilla films as well (yes, even the American Godzilla). Speaking of 'Earthquake', it'd be cool to see it on Blu with the (lossless) 'Senssurround' audio track that caused such a 'sensation' at the theaters back then....btw, the dvd does include a DD3.1 'Senssurround' track that (feebly) attempts to emulate the original experience. I wouldn't be surprised if '2012' includes the D-Box motion code.

I couldn't agree with you more Phoenix. I was hoping the trend of releasing single disc blu rays and versions with extras wouldn't show up for a long while if ever. I understand that alot of people don't watch extras, but having two versions benefits no one. The single disc versions will cost what we are currently paying and the two disc versions will cost more than what a blu ray currently sells for. I know it won't happen, but maybe if everyone ignored the single disc version and waited to purchase the two disc version until the price dropped to a reasonable level the studios would quit this crap.

There's only a $1 difference in list price. Hopefully Amazon will discount both titles similarly. Also, there's only 1 DVD release and likely matches the 1-disc features. Looks like the studios are starting to begin the movement away from the "special edition" dvd.
