Think you can wait a couple years? I'm just guessing they wait until "The Hobbit" is closer to fruition to release the Extended Editions. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm asking honestly, haha.

Way I see it: I buy the theatrical versions when they release, then buy the EE's when they release. If they're years apart, then it's not gonna hurt my pocketbook at all.

That is the question. I can't imagine why the special features would be DVD versions since Jackson went out of his way to film most of them in hi def, plus the National Geographic special would look great on BD.

errr....its a trailer. Being streamed. And you can still see the promise it holds for when the movies are actually being played on a 1080p set. This thing is going to look (and sound) fantastic.

Bahaha. OR just watch your DVD version and imagine it looking and sounding better!

Doesn't matter. These aren't regular movies, and I've been waiting a looooong time for these, so I'll pay a premium.

So are the other hundreds of 1080p trailers on that site that look quite excellent... I mean, obviously I'm not condemning the whole release based on the trailer, but it does make me a bit uneasy when the only thing HD about it is the text floating over the film clips

I understand what your saying...But that wasn't my point, I'm sure most of
us no matter what will get them...But what I mean is, these are no more classics than say Snow White and Pinnochio which we all got coupons if we
had previously purchased them before...

I'm just wondering if we'll get lucky again?

I promised myself not to double-dip like my dvd days and that I only want the blu upgrade of my EE versions on DVD. That said, this release will really test my conviction as LOTR is one of my favorites.

For the people who want to know the differences between TE and EE (as the closer we get to release I'm sure more will start asking):

This is why buying this set is a problem. For me, The Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition is a masterpiece. Pure perfection. So, no matter what I have to have some form of that film on home video, whether it's keeping my extended edition on DVD now or replace it with the eventual blu-ray.

The extended editions for the next two is just a tricky situation. I have serious problems with the crap that was added, and yet there are a number of scenes between the two films (The Heir of Numenor in the Two Towers, the Witch King and Gandalf scene in Return of the King are examples) that are sublime. Plus, I pretty much despise how they ended the Two Towers in the extended edition and I think the demise of Saruman at the beginning of Return of the King is bad in its placement and bad in its execution.

Do the really bad scenes out way the really good scenes in extended editions of the last two films? I just don't know. I just wish Jackson would do a middle cut between the two versions.

You don't need the Boromir flashback. You don't need the Corsair ships sequence that features Peter Jackson's cameo. You don't need the drinking game between Legolas and Gimli in Return of the King.

Yet, you really need that scene where Aragorn reveals himself to Sauron with the palantir.

Decisions. Decisions. Decisons.

It doesn't matter which version of Fellowship I watch. It's just that good.

Dolby TrueHD, 5.1.

TrueHD 5.1... fail Warner, fail...

What happened to the DTS Master 7.1 as was reported a few months back?

TrueHD 5.1 almost guarantees that it will be 16-bit as well, as all Warner TrueHD tracks are always 16-bit...

Oh what could have been..

Sooooo, do the theatrical releases not even have the commentaries???!

I actually like the theatrical releases better than the EE versions - but this release is a bit of a disappointment.

Seriously, one of the "special features" is a preview of the DVD EEs?
