This would be my top 10 of the 2000's in no particular order*
The Departed
Snatch
Donnie Darko
Punch-Drunk Love
Kill Bill vol1
Kill Bill vol2
Watchmen
Gran Torino
Sin City
There Will Be Blood
* I haven't seen Inglorious Bastards yet so that might sneak into the top 10.
While I did enjoy them, IMO Children Of Men, Brokeback Mountain, the Dark Knight & The LOTR trilogy are vastly overrated.

Other notables from this decade
No Country For Old Men
Million Dollar Baby
Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind
Almost Famous
Lost In Translation
Remember The Titans
Ray

And of course the great comedies...
Anchor Man
Step Brothers
Kung Pow: Enter The fist
Bad Santa
Napolean Dynamite
The Hangover
Superbad
Wedding Crashers
Forgetting Sara Marshall

I'll be completely honest....I think it's a very poor list (imo), with the LOTR trilogy being the only deserving one on the list, although I don't even think that should be on the list because it's not fair to include all three films in making the determination. As much as I like the trilogy, none of the movies individually deserve to be on the list, although collectively they do.

It's not to say I don't like any of the films on the list--I do. I think Mystic River and Children of Men are excellent films. However, this list exemplies why I've always had little respect for Travers as a reviewer. His reviews are baffling at times, he prefers domestic decent budget sized films, and he has very little film insight.

I'm not sure how Children of Men is vastly overrated when it received very little financial success, not even making back its budget, and was only nominated for three academy awards. Yes, it received widespread critical acclaim, but I'm not sure how you can say a film based on those merits is "vastly overrated."

I like the inclusion of Cinderella Man, which I thought got unfairly ignored. It is an excellent film.

Glad someone sees that, I fell in love with this movie right away in the theaters. Great piece of filmmaking.

Good films on that list but Rolling Stone is one rag that has pretty much everything wrong when it comes to lists.

People can criticize Crowe all they want for the media perception of him being what it is, but he is one of the best modern actors without a doubt. The scene where he asks for money with his hat is one of the more touching moments in recent movie history.

You are correct! That scene is very powerful and Howard and Crowe did such a fantastic job in that movie. It definately has not gotten the credit that it deserves as a movie. But thats IMO

Yes! great scene and great call there jhiggy! Giamatti also was magnificent in that scene (and in the role): "what the hell do you have to be sorry about?".
(camera shoots back to Crowe)...audience just turns to butter.

they were both BORN to play those 2 guys, hence why Cinderella man is a gem.

As far as i enjoyed A History of Violence, i don't think it deserved to be in the top 10 list. My opinion.

I say it based on numerous occasions of seeing post on these boards fawning over it. I rented it, enjoyed it while I watched it & really have no desire to see it again. It just didn't click with me, thats all.

Gotcha, I didn't know where you were getting the overrated part from. I personally have not seen too much discussion about it on this site, but it's understandable if that is where your perception of it came from.

To call it vastly overrated though is harsh, even if people "fawn" over it on these boards. I guess we just have different ideas of what overrated means.
