Films like that follow the same basic structure and feel to me, so I see them but it's just to cliche of filmmaking for me.

Fair Enough... I do like your list though other than Inglorious at 1 and the highlighted movies, very respectable

Drag me to hell was good for a Horror movie, not good to great in general
Avatar is just another blockbuster where people think that beacuse it has cool effects or awesome 3d that makes it a great movie

Enemies was slow, had too many gangster movies cliches in it for me and just didnt seem very original and I ddint think Christian Bale was very good in it..

Just because watchmen was the closest adaptation yet doesnt make it a great movie to be on top 20 of 2009, but it is an opinion list
I love how you point out his list is nothing more than an opinioin by giving your...Opinion.

I surely can not be the only person who believes that picking 20 top movies for 2009 is a somewhat arduous task?

I have only been able to glean an unlucky six (couldn't find a seventh ) from the cinematic database that is my brain... and that is all you will get from me for 2009!!!
  1. Star Trek
  2. Inglorious Basterds
  3. The Men Who Stare at Goats
  4. Up
  5. Avatar
  6. Watchmen

Agree? Disagree?... it matters not, that is MY list, and I shall choose what I will

I can't come up with 20, I do not go often enough in theaters anymore to actualy see 20 movies in a given year.

I've only seen these this year in theaters :

1. Watchmen (actualy enjoy this more then TDK)
2. Star Trek (was very surprises by how much I loved it)
3. Harry Potter
4. Chrsitmas Carol
4. Inkheart (for me it did exactly what I was expecting)
5. Astroboy (I am a huge Astroboy fan)
6. District Nine (was a bit disapointed by this movie)
7. Dragonball ( I had fun watching it)
8. Terminator (was ok but not as great as the other Terminators)
9. Wolverine (wanted to enjoy it but did not)
10. Monster vs Aliens (very disapointed in this one)

I still have to see Sherlock Homes & Avatar but I won't see them till January. I hate going to see movies in jam pack theaters with tons of people doing about everything expect watching the movie.
11. New Moon (that was for my wife, she like's it)

Still a few to see before I can make a list of 20 (Avatar , Up in the Air ,The Road and Sherlock Holmes)

So far its a toss up between Moon and Inglourious Basterds for the film of the year - both films were incredible , Tarantinos best work IMO.

Haven't seen anything in theaters for a 2 or 3 years now. I don't believe I'm missing anything there.

I agree that Observe and Report shouldn't be on any top list and I have to question the credibility of any one who would put it on their top list. Just a downright stupid movie, and yes Robert I did "get" it. I would rather watch Paul Blart again.

I can't make a list at this time as there are still several I want to see.

I have not seen Avatar, Up in the Air, Sherlock Holmes, Moon or Invictus. I think any list without having seen the following would leave alot out dont you agree? I do know one thing I know I would never put something like Drag Me To Hell (I want my time back on that one...) or Star Trash (2009) would ever make any list of mine.

Besides Invictus (it didn't look particularly good to me), I would agree with waiting to see the others in addition to The Road (unless you've seen it).

After I see those, if they are as good as I anticipate, I'll be taking things like Knowing and Wolverine off of my list that have to be there because I haven't seen too many movies this year that I enjoyed enough to rank (though I did enjoy those quite a bit, just not as much as others like Up and State of Play).
