Help picking a PC BD burner

I have been looking and cannot seem to find anything worthwile.
I am looking to add a BD burner to my desktop PC. I would like a name brand and it would only need to be able to burn BD-25's.
Anyone have any recommendations? I woul dlike to stay under $200 if possible.

First, I am NOT looking for a BD burner/copier, but i couldn't start a separate thread b/c i'm a new member.

Does anyone know of a SAFE program that I can use to either burn the digital copies that come with BDs to DVD or convert them to a file that I can burn?

I asked a guy at Best Buy and he said there is no "official" program to do so, and I don't want to download a program not knowing if it's safe to use. i know we are not supposed to do this, but, technically, it's MY copy and i should be able to do what i want with it. i do not feel i need to shell out more money for a DVD just so i can watch it on another TV.

Hello,

best two internal BD-Burners at the moment are the Pioneer BDR-203 and the LG BH08LS20. I can quote the performance on both as I have both in one system!! There are others, but these are the best sellers due to the reviews they have gotten from tech testers etc.

Anyhow, both are very stable, both write BD-R's (25GB) at 8 speed, and I have not made any expensive BD-R coasters. Pioneer is probably a better quality drive, however, when burning onto Sony 4x speed BD-R's the LG beats the Pioneer hands down as it will record at 8x speed on these BD-R's whilst Pioneer's will only do 4X speed. This could be attributed to Firmware, but as of yet, the latest from Pioneer does not offer and increased safe speed for recording to these discs.

Further, they both have the capacity to burn dual layer BD-R/RW (50GB). Why stop at 25GB?

Program = 'Bluray to DVD' - Google it and buy it. It will do the job you want, but you may also need AnyDVD HD version - pricey but it may be required to do the job.

First, Welcome to the board!
The reason you cannot start a new thread as a new member is so you can understand how it works. What you have done is called thread hijacking and is frowned upon.
The Best Buy guy is right. Digitial copies are for use with a computer. To do anything else with them like burning is also frowned upon on this board. If you already own the blu-ray disc, why would you want to copy the digital copy other than to share it? Yes it is your copy and you are free to play the original disc on any TV you have. You don't need to shell out more money for a DVD as you own the original right?

i see what you're saying and how it's frowned upon to do what i am asking, but personally i feel that i'm kinda being ripped off by having the extra copy in one format that i CHOOSE (and i thoroughly recognize that it is my choice) not to use due to inconvenience, but rather have the other format.

that's why i wish all BDs (at least for the time being) came in DVD combo packs.

What features should someone look for in choosing a Blu-Ray burner for a PC?

If I ever get to a point where I can buy a BD burner, it will definitely be a LiteOn. I've had two LiteOn dvd burners, and they have been excellent. My first one has lasted over 5 yrs, and still going strong. Recently got a new SATA LiteOn burner at WalMart and it's doing great too. Since my experiences with them have been so great, LiteOn is what I'll get, when I can afford a BD burner.

I can't seem to find one anywhere so hopefully someone can help... I'm looking for a PATA (E-IDE) interface, internal Blu-Ray burner drive that will work under Windows XP Professional. My computer only has 2 SATA connectors and they are used by hard drives and the DVD drive connectors are PATA interface one of which is occupied with a Plextor PX-870A. I would really prefer to install an internal drive rather than an external drive through USB. Can anyone help me?

what about a sata controller card? that would give you additional sata ports, i think they are pretty cheap.

I believe that Kevinbro100 is refering to a pci sata controler. Which in essence will give you more sata slots. Please keep in mind that if you are going to use a pci sata controler card you must also get molex to sata power connectors for the drives as most pre fab pc have matching number of power connectors and sata ports on the mobo. Now if all of your pci slots are filled then I guess the next course of action would be to look into an external blu- ray drive......HTH

Just be aware of PATA bandwidth limitation capping BD data transfer rates.

Having said that, if you really can't spare any expansion slots (I would still recommend u take a hard look here), I'd recommend you getting a 12.7mm slim BD-burner such as Panasonic UJ-220 for $150 (ebay). The UJ-220 uses JAE-50 connector and needs a $6 converter to IDE.

Was thinking the same thing. If your PC is that outdated(2 Sata ports), why bother putting a BD drive in? Save up, build a nice PC for $600-800 with a BD drive ready to go!
