I haven't cracked open my Lost Season 5 yet but I expect it to be like the previous season. Have you tried calibrating your TV and reducing the sharpness setting. I've seen high sharpness cause excessive noise.

I use to work in video... a bit... nothing that used film but from my experience video is usually on a tape/disc of sort or potentially a hard drive. So in my opinion that appears to be a camera that is recording on film rather the video.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Also thanks for posting an image I was just gonna state that the behind the scenes footage appeared to have film cameras!

By the way my season 5 didnt appear to grainy

Check with IMDB before you buy your next bluray disc. If it mentions 35mm, stay far away. 16 mm is better, but 8mm is best.

Gotta disagree...in film the grain is where (to my eyes) the fine detail lies

It's a film camera. Looks like a Panny XL2. That's a film magazine on the back.

I guess you deny pretty much every movie then, since until recently, every movie was shot on film and grain is what makes up the film image.

Might want to try English, grammar, and punctuation next time as well.

It baffles me that people that own a blu-ray player still buy dvds. I personally haven't bought a dvd sense june 2006. If it's good enough to buy I'll wait till it's available on blu, no point in double dipping.

It baffles me that people who own a blu-ray player have no clue about what grain is, why it's there, or what it does.

The trouble with relying exclusively on film is that the dailies take time to be processed. A video backup may help the director review at least the framing of his shots.

i only buy tv series on dvd, it is a waste to collect that when i already have a lot of seasons on dvd, i dont want 2 formats on the same serie, movies i stopped long time ago, old movies i keep on dvd till i see blu is much better,no idea to upgrade if blu is shit.

you represent a lunatic fringe, not the mainstream. the best-selling live action blu-rays (dark knight, transformers 2, iron man, etc) are grainy.

ok great... does this have anything to do with the final output...Nope. Furthermore directors have monitors attached to their cameras that have the aspect ratio lines so they can see the "live" framing. Also I am sure reshoots are scheduled to fix problems. So the fact that they can't see dailys in an instant is bunk.
Also who's to say that they dont attach a video device to the output to tape the dailies?`I don't know personally. But I am sure there is a way. just a thought.

Regardless film is the ultimate output in this case.

Still, reshoots take time, and if other things delay the schedule, they can be expensive. But now that I've actually looked at the picture, the video monitor allows the steadicam operator to see what he's filming, without disturbing the camera's balance. More lightweight rigs have a foldaway LCD monitor.

What are you even talking about? The discussion was about whether or not LOST was still shot on film, not whether or not they used video assist, which pretty much everyone uses these days.
