Yeah its a new feature in the latest update, basically you connect two PS3's by ethernet cable and it copies the contents to the new PS3

Just be sure of stuff like this

When you perform this operation, all data that is stored on the PS3 system that will receive the data (the "destination system”) will be deleted.

I just completed Modern Warfare 2 on my slim and the guide says I will lose ALL data on my slim.. This sucks!

Is the MW2 game save protected? If so you could copy that to a USB key and then once the transfer is done put back on the slim?

Well, everything appears to be operational... but can't connect to the internet... and none of my controllers (either SIXAXIS or DS3) will work without being connected via mini-USB... and I can't reach my WAP.

Is it the one antenna for both bluetooth and wifi? Mine came off of the lower board near the trianglular'ish hole but appears to be only a single pin and I put it back in. I also routed it between the power supply and BD-drive... should it go under the power supply instead?

I don't have a long enough crossover cable to reach my router... a straight patch cable shows a connection from my router, but won't get a DHCP lease or do anything even statically assigned.

Hey all, I just got my 80 GB (BC and Memory Card Readers included) PS3 back frrom getting a reflow (yes, I had the dreaded YLOD). Everything works great; I've had it back for about a week now. Only one problem: I can't install any downloaded demos from the PSN. I can download them just fine, but when it goes to install them, it gets about 10 percent of the way, then gets an error. This happens every time, with every demo i try and download. Everything else works fine on the PS3. I can download and watch videos, trailers, etc, and play my games and blu-ray movies.

Anybody else ever hear of this? I need some advice/tips. Thanks!

Well found out why the bluetooth (controllers) and wifi weren't working after my YLOD repair.

The ribbon cable wasn't connected.

100% operational after buying a $25 heat gun at Home Depot and following the youtube vids. Backed up my saved games to my cell phone, and also got a complete backup done. Already let Terminator: Salvation Rip and played some GTAIV. Fan is quite a bit louder than the Drake's Fortune still... I blew it completely out, though, so not sure what to make of that.

sent out my 60gb to the graveyard today....UPS says it wont move and leave the facility until Monday so hopefully the week after Ill be back enjoying games and blurays. Its only been a week and Ive been soooo bored. Having a nice collection of movie and games and not being able to play them sucks. Hopefully I get a good slim that lasts forever. I wont miss the BC much since I dont own a PS2 game anymore, but I will miss her shine. Merry Xmas to everyone who has had their PS3 woes this holiday season!

UR fan is blownout? meaning not working? or do you mean you cleaned out all the dust internally?

I dont understand this: why do I have to create a PSN account for all my users on the PS3?? Doesnt make sense if I never used the accounts? I really dont understand the guide

I am thinking of upgrading my PS3 drive. I currently have the 40GB model. I am thinking of using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-280-_-Product as my drive. When I put this new HD inside the PS3, will the PS3 automatically install it's current OS and then I will be good to go. Correct?

Dont know if this has to do with my laser, but fallout 3 just froze on me twice.

I took the game out and wiped the disc then loaded back the save game, it froze again as soon as i started walking. i then loaded a different save and everything is fine.

This is not the first time this game has froze on me (and im sure everyone else) the game is known to be glitchy, but this is the first time its happend back to back.

What do you guys think?

Cleaned out all the dust with compressed air. Still kinda loud, though. I remember first hearing people say their 60/20GB 1st gen PS3 were loud and wondering WTF. Then mine subtly got louder (first only noticed it after playing a couple hours of games or watching a Blu-ray). Then noticed it during quiet lulls (dialog, etc). It never got nearly as loud as my Xenon 360 (which sounds like a jet on the runway at all times), but then it went YLOD. It's certainly still noticeable now...

First of all I love the thread, second of all, I am having a HUGE problem with my PS3. I performed an update today so I could buy items in the playstation store, and after I performed the update, there is no sound coming from my playstation. It was update 3.15 or 3.16. All of the cords are properly connected to the playstation and my tv, but the av cable does wobble when it's connected to the ac in connector. I'm mad because I've only had it for three days, so I can take it back to best buy, but I was hoping to avoid that if I could. Any help I can get on this is greatly appreciated. I connected my ps3 to another tv, which is the exact same model, only larger with the same effect. I turned it off for awhile just to see if it was a fluke and there is still no sound.

I think they will send you a 60 back if they have one or a 80 that has bc, at least thats what i've heard. I'm sending mine in soon. I was wondering though does anyone know if they actually will work on my system and send it off or do they just send out a replacement right away? Would be cool if i could have my original but if not thats fine too. Thanks in advance. Happy Holidays!

Try resetting the settings to factory defaults then reconfiguring sound output.
Settings -> System Settings -> Restore Default Settings
