Default Sound Advice (onkyo 5200)

I am about to buy a 7.1 system which will connect with a PS3 and a 1080p TV. This one below i may go with, is this a good choice?

You would do MUCH better by stepping up to the Onkyo HT-S6200. The 5200 does NOT have HDMI switching, which means that (1) Audio is NOT carried by the HDMI, and you have to use a separate cable ( or cables ) for the audio; and (2) You do NOT get the new lossless HD audio codecs ( Dolby TrueHD and DTS MasterAudio ) since they are carried ONLY by HDMI cables. You can usually find good deals on the HT-S6200 at http://www.amazon.com , and at http://www.accessories4less.com .

I agree, don't know what your budget is for for an average of $100 more than the cost of the 5200, I'd go for the 6200.

amazon has it for 520 http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S6200...1880966&sr=1-3

new egg has it for 549 but, that includes Free Shipping! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882120143

i have shopped at both of these places and they both offer great service. i don't know where you might be shipping this to but depending, you might be better off with the newegg depending on shipping cost.

again without knowing your budget, the 6200 will give you the best bang for your buck.

best of luck, keep us posted.

Thanks for the advice, i would of never known until it was here. One last question, the middle and rear speakers will be mounted from the ceiling or wall. What mounts should i look for?

By the way, i will go with the 6200 if i get one.

Go to Walmart and look for these: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=13320902 The Onkyo speakers should work just fine with them !!

Got the 6200 and took a little while for me to set it up correctly, but sounds great.

Got it at a great price before it went back up.

outstanding, glad to hear that it worked out like we thought it would. sometimes we do make pretty good recommendations.

give us an update after you've had some burn-in time with the unit!

AV Receiver (HT-R670) It wont upscale analog signals but still a decent system. I have a 7100 but cant ever remember upscaling as I run everything HDMI.
