Talking Samsung 46" 1080p LED/LCD 8500 240hz HDTV

I just upgraded my television to this dandy of a model, the Samsung 46" 240hz 8500 HDTV. After months of viewing these in the stores and gaping at the picture, it's now in my home! This television has more features than a Saturday matinee. I'm still reading the novel-sized instruction manual and will be posting specs comments later.Does someone else have this monitor and have had it a while where they may be able to enlighten me as to the great pros and cons? This is a significant upgrade over my 720p Plasma, and I need info on all the bells and whistles.

You're absolutely correct!!
I've viewed this thing in the stores the past couple months and it's unreal that I have it in my home.
I don't know where to start with movies... I've been putting on different flicks every few minutes! I think I'm gonna pass out!

Is this one of those Sammy models that automatically dims brightness when the screen shows a dark scene? And there's no way to turn that option off?

Welcome to the 8500 club. Not too many of us around and I was feeling kinda lonely. pros and cons vary but I have no real cons except that it is a dust and fingerprint magnets. Most people don't like the blooming but you don't even see them when you're immersed in the movie, only when I'm on my PS3 and the entire screen is black for options and the white letters and bars bloom, but who cares just as long it doesn't interfere with the movie. The screen is also very reflective.

Don't mess with The Lopan! Thanks for your feedback. Nice to be a part of an exclusive group in the HT world.

I don't mind the reflective screen, as I've used a plasma the past 3 yrs. I've already found out about the dust and fingerprint issue-I'm glad they included that special chamois. I kepp the cover that came over the monitor and cover mine when not in use; one way of keeping the dust problem at a minimum... I've done this going back to the Plasma, and even my desk top PC. I also keep my reciever's grill covered witrh the same material when not in use.

I'll post new pics on Wednesday!

I was looking at these in BB yesterday ( Magnolia section) The sales guy said said Samsung was being sued for patent infringements and they were not going to produce any more 8500's until the suit was settled.

Has anyone else heard of this ?

The 8000 is the TV you mention. However some of the rhetoric about this is grossly misguided and plain false. I have this TV, and the dimming is very rare, and there is a firmware update that addresses the issue. The picture quality is very close to the 8500 from my comparison.

This tv is beautiful no doubt about it and may be one of Samsungs best. I have also heard that Sammy is being sued for the patent infringement and they have halted production on the 8500 until everything is settled. Its just what I was told and heard. But again this is a beautiful tv for sure but out of my price range. Congrats to those that have one but for now my tv is good enough.

I was hopeing the 8500 would cost arouind 2500.00 next Christmas, that's when I was going to nab one. If they cease production it could a while before the price drops

I own the 8000 also and I could not see the difference in PQ between the two but I do know the 8000 uses less wattage then the 8500 which surprised me.

I have not noticed any dimming problems with my 8000.

Congrats ! The set is awesome and I know you will enjoy. I was surprised on Christmas eve when a geek van pulled up with a 55" 8500 from Santa.

I have the 46' 8000 and I'm happy with it. Its way better than my 52" 7 series that I have in my living room. I've been watching Lost on bluray and the colors are amazing. I got this TV back in Junes for $1900 and I think its the Siht !!!!!!!

I wish they sold this model in Canada! I just swapped out a UN55B8000 for a 55" XBR8. To me local dimming makes a world of a difference.
