Default Any Star Wars fans here? Sign the petition!

As most of you know in 1997, Lucas altered the original Star Wars Trilogy(henceforth known as the OOT) and created the Special Edition(henceforth known as the SE). Many fans prefer OOT. Despite that, Lucas at first refused to release the OOT on DVD. A site called http://originaltrilogy.com/ (henceforth known as ot.com) and a petition were created to get the OOT released on DVD. Lucas finally released the OOT as a bonus feature on DVD. But the release was not anamorphic and was un-restored. The picture and audio quality were inferior to that of the SE. OT.com has created another petition to get the OOT on blu-ray in audio and picture quality equivalent to the SE. If you care about getting the OOT blu-ray, please sign the petition. Just to make it clear, this is not an effort to stop Lucas from releases the SE on blu-ray. He can release the movies in any version he wants to they are his movies. I, and many others merely think he should give fans the choice and release the OOT as well.

Edit: OOT=Original Original Trilogy.

mods: I wasn't sure what category to put this thread in. Please feel free to move it to wherever you feel appropriate. If this thread violates the rules of the forum, I apologize in advance. Please feel free to delete the thread if necessary. I don't want any trouble.

It's not about giving fans a "choice." The Star Wars movies are George Lucas's creations, and since he had the opportunity to complete them as he would have originally liked, he did so and considers the special editions his true and complete vision carried out. It doesn't matter if you saw the originals in theaters when you were 10 and they hold a special place in your heart...they are his movies and as the creator, I can understand his desire to only release what he feels are the "complete editions." Does that mean I necessarily agree with his choices? Definitely not, but again, they're his movies, not ours.

So...put me in the "I don't care" category I guess .

When the SE's were put in theaters, I think there was a trailer at the beginning with Lucas talking about them {or it was in the commercials I honestly can't remember} in which he stated that it was about 85% to his vision... so I'm betting he probably has a bit more tinkering to go.

I don't remember that (not saying I don't believe it, just that I don't remember)...maybe the 15% more tinkering will be removing some of the 85%

I agree with Sussudio....It more than likely will not happen. It would be nice to get both versions so everyone will be happy. However, Lucas has said time and time again that he favors the SE that he released in '97...I will say that the OOT has a better chance of seeing the light of day than the Christmas special..

Remember this...

I wasn't around when the originals hit the theatre so it doesn't affect me as much. I am one who is for Han shooting first lol but we all know how it goes. Lucas changed it because "it was too violent"..get outta here. Another thing that drives me people nuts is the digitally restored Jabba and Hayden Christensen @ the end of 6. From a young child's point of view, it seems very right to include Hayden @ the end. They are more familiar with him than Shaw. This is why I feel both editions should be included but don't count on it. I'm clicking "I don't care"...just give me Star Wars on Blu..

I can understand him wanting to release what he feels are the complete versions, but I can't understand only releasing them. What is the harm in giving the fans the choice? They are his movies and he can do what he wants, but he is asking us to spend our money for the movie tickets/DVDs/blu-rays and other stuff. That gives us a say. If we don't like the version he releases, we have every right not buy it. We also have every right to create this petition, let him know how the fans feel, and try to change his mind.

Signing a petition isn't going to do anything.

It's his choice and right as the creator to do whatever he wants to his creation. Regadless of how you feel

And before someone says it.... just because you bought movie tickets or merchandise, it doesn't make you a part owner of the film. You paid for entertainment or toys, and don't have a say in what the creator does with it. I for one was annoyed enough he even released the original cuts on DVD, since they were never supposed to be released again after the final VHS release before the Special Editions came out.

I knew someone would say it. No it doesn't. Buying something doesn't give you a say in anything.

that's right, he can do whatever he wants. But can't expect me or other fans to buy it we don't like it.

this isn't about ownership, this is about the fact he is asking us to spend our money on the thing. We are his customers. Customers do have a say in the service/product provided to them that they are paying for. If he doesn't want to give us a say, he doesn't have to. But he can expect a negative impact on sales.

why would that annoy you? how can it possibly hurt you that the OOt was released again? You still have your SE to watch if you want to.

it gives me the say in whether I buy or not. If he wants to sell it to me, he better release it the way I want.

Sorry buddy...Beast is right...'ol Georgie could care less what you think/want. These are his "babies" so to speak and he chooses the way people watch/buy them.

He knows what the fans think. But he's the creator, so his rights prevail.

Sure sure, heard that so many times before. But you guys are still the first fanboys running to the store on release day to buy the movie. All giddy and wetting your jeans in anticipation. It's all talk.

He's not asking anyone to spend money on anything.

He's simply releasing them. It's your choice whether to buy them or not.

And again, you don't have a say in what gets released. The only say you get is whether or not you plunk down your money for what is released. And I hardly think a few fanboys having a tizzy is going to have a major impact on sales. The movies are gonna sell huge, like they always do, no matter what a few fans choose to do.

Because, the final VHS release was touted as the last time time the original cuts would ever be released on Home Video again. I applauded his choice, and felt he should have stuck by that. Thankfully the versions that did get released were old Laserdisc encodes, so they weren't super high quality.

yeah, that's why he changed his mind and released the OOT as bonus edition on DVD right? He definitely would care if it effected his profits enough.

that is incorrect. I do not have to watch his movies and I do not have to buy them. What he does and can choose is the way he sells them. Whether or not I buy them is my choice.

I have to go with the I don't care option. I actualy enjoy the Special Edition as they are. Ok the Han/Geedo thing is a little silly cause it make's no sense that Geedo would make a shot that badly from less then 3 feet away but once again I don't really care.

I have the original version on laserdisc and if I truly wanted to see them I am sure I could go and find myself a new laserdisc player somewhere now that mine is dead. I have the original on DVD that were release 5 years ago and they are from the master on the laserdisc. So when I feel nostalgic each May, I watch those version from May 21 on and I recall the good old days. That is pretty much enough for me.

Now I just want Star Wars to be release on BD in a nice ultra/mega set with all 6 episodes, 1000 hours of extra features, Empire Of Dreams documentary in BD and I will be a very happy fan.
