Lionsgate reworked the colours for the Blu-ray to make it brighter, thats why there is really bad grain in some scenes. The 'original' version is darker and none of the grain is visible.

The UK or Australian Blu-ray releases are definitely the one's to go for for the proper color timing.

Default Best BD titles...

I think The Descent ranks among the best BD transfers out there...though I find it interesting people complain about grain. I think there's a big difference between digital noise/compression artifacts, etc as opposed to film grain. I love the film grain because it renders the detail. There is film grain in The Descent, but it looks fabulous. The absence of grain = the absence of fine object detail. On a related topic, what are some of the favorites out there for BD PQ and AQ. For me "The Dark Knight" is amazing. "Minority Report" was a revelation, especially when you compare to SD and you see how bad the color timing and grain structure were handled. "House of 1000 Corpses" was a huge surprise in how lovingly mastered it was. The absolute best I have seen so far in terms of PQ, AQ, features and taking advantage of the 50gb capacity is "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." A perfect example of an older film (1977) scrubbed from the original master and looks incredible, like it was filmed last week. Jaw dropping details, especially those of the ships are dazzling. The sound offers BOTH DD TrueHD and DTS HD-MA 5.1. The BD contains ALL THREE versions of this film remastered at the same quality level and with the same audio options. Loaded with extras including original documentaries and new ones. The package is topped off with a book and fold out poster that even explains detail by detail the differences between each cut. The film's original film stock grain is in tact and renders flawless detail. I never imagined seeing a film that I have seen numerous time look this good and seem this new. Beautifully packaged, this is the best I've seen so far, even above the newer releases that sell Blus...If you don't own this one it's a must have as a statement for what this technology can do, and makes me look forward to other classics like Jaws and Alien to be given this treatment.

What are other people's favorites?

i just watched this. Not bad. The first part was awesome that I wished they had just continued on with the survival story without the old ballet group with fangs.
