There... fixed it for you.

Yeah, when I read that quote by Joe Kane, I had one of those "WTF?" moments. How is using a proven codec that is used for the most popular media format ever (DVD) as well as for many OTA/Sat/Cable broadcasts about greed? MPEG-2 still works great, even for HiDef video, although not as efficiently as VC-1 or AVC (MPEG-4).

Speaking of VC-1, last I checked, that was a M$ codec; and what? M$ is not about greed? Gimme a freakin' break. M$ is only good at using their vast financial resources into developing other peoples' ideas for themselves to make more money. Name the last major innovation that M$ came up with.... <crickets>

I would think that industry standard codecs, like MPEG-2 or MPEG-4, that are developed by a large consortium of expert members in the field, should be used over codecs like VC-1, developed by a single corporation which collects all of the royalties, if you are really worried about "greed".

Although, lets not fool ourselves, everyone is out to make a buck.

Reading that quote knocked Joe Kane a number of notches down in my respect book.

I do love that a Blu-ray version of HDV Essentials is coming out. Now, do we think that was influenced by greed? Maybe someone has been peeking at the Nielsen/VideoScan numbers?
