I am not over big on emotions when I watch movies, even if some scenes will get to me. But Pixar, they truly know how to push my buttons

The scene in The Incredibles when Bob is telling her "I am not strong enough" and she goes another macho thing and he just grab's her and say "I can't lose you again, I am not strong enough" hard stuff Pixar creators are extremely good at getting human emotions

Brad Bird’s The Incredibles has long had many political meanings read into it. Perhaps most controversial is how well the film lines up with Ayn Rand’s objectivist movement. It’s also quite popular with politically conservative types as well — the National Review named it number two on their list of the top 25 conservative movies. Tom Elrod, over at The House Next Door, points out that The Incredibles isn’t the only Pixar film that could be read conservatively in a recent post. He argues that while Pixar’s movies may not be politically conservative, you could apply a more relaxed notion of conservatism to many of their films due to their focus on preserving the family unit.
I haven't seen all of this film, just caught bits and pieces on TV. So the movie has a family who wants to stick together? It's a family movie, it's no big surprise that it does well with families from the obvious character relations.

What about Toy Story? I don't remember seeing a Dad in that movie, though it's been a while, but it looks like that movie is saying Dad's aren't needed. Sound like reading too much between the lines? So does this story.

Interesting way of looking at this. Read between the line.

What do you mean? Go ahead and say it.

What I'm talking about here is, it's not a big surprise they made a family movie which appeals to families. It's all about the almighty buck and people will shell it out to see movies like this. But to call them socially conservative based upon a movie which has a specific market is myopic. They are after all a business, a family that sticks together is appealing to people.

So is Toy Story - Mom raising her kids alone, while the Dad is in Hawaii drinking island drinks and getting lays. That resonates with lots of people.

My comment wasn't meant as I am being sarcastic with you. I am just saying that I agree with you.

Actually, with the exception of The Incredibles, I can't think of a Pixar movie where BOTH parents are present.

"Incredibles" is not really political at all. It's just that most of Hollywood's output lately has been so far left that The Incredibles seems conservative by comparison.

I see the Incredibles as the kiddie version of Watchmen. I see Wall-E as I Am Legend, if it were even more depressing and not entertaining at all. Up was the best non-anime animated feature I've ever seen and fully intend to see it again, soon.

Bugs Life is not very conservative: its themes of unity for the greater good (and even sacrificing individuality for that end) are pretty strong. I would agree that The Incredibles is fairly conservative, but another Brad Bird movie, Iron Giant, seems to mock 50s-era Red Scare and Communism fears. Plus, Ratatoulie is based in France, and conservatives hate anything French (it started WAY before Freedom Fries).

theres no reason to make this political and get the thread locked, conservative isnt being used in that way

I disagree. If the source is the National Review, then conservative is being used in a political sense.

I just find it odd that family values -- or as the article puts it "preserving the family unit" -- are apparently claimed as a conservative viewpoint.

Pixar taps into the "inner-child" in all us old farts!

Conservatism comes after childhood!

You haven't read the premise of an animated movie they're currently working on, have you?

I dont think there is anything wrong with his post. Those are his observations about the movies and he thinks they disprove the articles claim. He isnt pushing his politcal beliefs on us.

From the different responses on this thread in particular I could see different way of viewing the term conservative differently. But the article itself states that this isn't the conservative we know of in politics. This is conservative with a little "c" in this case it would be family oriented/values.

Quote:
There is something conservative about much of Pixar’s output, but when I say conservative, I mean a small “c” conservative that sees the world along the same lines as Edmund Burke: “A disposition to preserve.”

However, I don't think this should be called a social conservative.

He isn't and thats not what I understood. But he is opening the door to head toward that direction. This is what I am concerned about from his comment:

I do see his point of view but with the highlighted part its where I am concerned about.

Anyways, everyone's opinion is always welcome as long as its positive.
