Default $69, a tab bit too high for me

I like this trilogy. It rates right up there with "Back to the Future" trilogy, but the asking price of $69 bucks from Amazon is a bit too much for me. I'll wait until the price comes down a bit. Maybe after about a month or two, the price will drop to about 30 to 40 bucks. That is a price I can see paying for this trilogy. (01/05/2010)

I believe the price will drop to around $50 once Walmart begins promoting the hell out of it. Another price war will happen and we, the consumers, will grin and be happy.

On another note...

I tried watching "Fellowship of the Ring" on upscaled DVD and just couldn't finish it. Maybe it's because I was tired and just finished a 10-hour work shift (I'm an online editor for a news site, so my eyes were buggin' me), but the quality just was not very good. I watched the first disc of the Extended Edition and called it a night. Anyone else have this problem?

Don't feel bad about falling sleep watching "Fellowship of the Ring." I fell asleep twice watching it at the big screen. Hell, I even went back the second week to watch it again on the big screen and I still fell asleep. I think it was because the theater was packed both trips, the body heat was way up and it was easy to snooze off into never-never land. Hell fire, I even fall asleep watching a kickass super bowl game.

Haha I didn't fall asleep. I couldn't finish it cause of the picture quality.

I'm holding out for the extended editions. These are my favorite films (stories) of all time, and I can't enjoy the theatrical versions as much any longer. I'm even developing a theater room with a LOTR theme. A shame we have to wait longer for the motherlode. I imagine the extended versions will be released to coincide with the debut of The Hobbit.

I look forward to checking out the LOTR room Blu Falcon. I have a "wall" of my LOTR collectibles (you can check out my gallery for a view of it.) I only started this x-mas, so it literally is just beginning, but hopefully it will expand accordingly to the entire room over time.

Ive seen these movies way too many times to want to buy the standard edition BDs. It will be easily over a year before I have any desire to watch these movies again, so I can definitely wait for the extended versions in 2011.

I might buy them because The Hobbit starts shooting in June 2010 and it will take 14 months to film + editing it should be finished fillming in oct 2011 so looks like we will have to wait till at least late 2012 to get the EE im guessing a holiday release for The Hobbit so we might get them the summer of 2012

Dont forget it takes like a year to do all the CG stuff in movies this big. I definitely think this is a 2012 movie.

Compared to the Star Wars DVDs, LOTR doesn't look that great PQ-wise. I can't wait for the BD... Definite purchase.

Have they even said when they're going to release the extended editions on BD?

No, but there's speculation that they're going to make us wait until The Hobbit is released.
